I think refs nowadays don’t want a Foreman-Lyle type situation anymore, they’d rather protect the fighters, but a situation like the Joyce fight is ridiculous in my opinion. Atleast a knockdown should be in place unless there taking an absolute beating like Norton was in Norton vs Cooney. Thanks for the post.

Much, much better to **** instead of stopping it, so not only the boxer will have time, but also the judge to look better at the situation and boxer's health.

I'm not disputing the definition of the word, I was disagreeing with your premise that it is only impressive stepping in the ring if a man is terrified out of his wits.

What about the impressive nature of a supremely confident fighter who has total belief in his own ability?

    Bump.
Couldn’t get anymore awful of a stoppage than what we’ve seen from Rolly vs Barroso.

But, we also had a very good example of perfect refereeing last night, in the Zhanibek Alimkhanuly-Steven Butler fight, where the ref didn't panic and let the fight end as it should, determined by the fighters.

The Romero fight wasn't a quick stoppage. That was out right corruption, a fix fight.

The Butler one could’ve easily been stopped earlier. Butler was super wobbly from the first kd and was getting hammered hard when he got up. The third kd where he got ktfo should’ve been avoided.

The Barroso stoppage was a stick up at gunpoint, not a quick stoppage.

The losing fighter should be able to protest and a ring side panel reviews and make a decision for the fight to continue not.

Howard Foster was even cringing at that stoppage

I cannot actually think of a worse one I've ever seen

I haven't had Showtime since they went full Woke, but I found a full 9th round video and watched it. Romero won by bad stoppage. This appears to be a trend. I'm wondering has there been some legal action that increases the personal liability of referees? Is it that they fear social media and the de facto sentences doled out to offenders once convicted there? Or is it straight up increased instance of Ben Franklins in a paper envelope passed on the sly? But yeah, much as a detest commies, I'm with the Prof here.
