    There was REAL hatred between Joey Giardello and Gene Fullmer. Each despised the other for being "dirty fighters" after their 15 round draw in 1960 Bozeman Montana. It lasted, from what I've read, until they both departed this earth.
    The Greg Haugen-Vinnie Pazienza rivallry, I'm not so sure about. I'm beginning to think that it was for real based on a relatively late interview with Pazienza...who expresses extreme contempt for Haugen and his "smart mouth":meparto:...
    Haugen's wit may have gotten him in trouble aplenty vs JCC, but it was truly GOLDEN vs Pazienza and Lou Duva...so much so that Duva, especially, wanted to kill Haugen. Greg could be very funny and caustic.

    Haugen is a very funny cat, that is for sure, albeit of the sort that isn't good for one's overall health and well being. The JCC fight though, I have a nice copy of the Showtime Boxing 30th Anniversary series which I have watched countless times. Every single time I watch that fight I think to myself whether anyone ever took the time to take Greg aside and show him a few side by side comparisons of his physical size and that of JCC? I mean, JCC appears to be fighting a dwarf/midget/Steward of the Lollipop Guild Union #56 Scranton. I mean, gotta give Greg credit, he may not have been overly bright (although I think it is very hard to tell what is genuine in that regard with most top level fighters) but he had balls of the sort that require a wheelbarrow to set them in just to go and walk about the mall or something of that sort. But, big balls, or in his case, ridiculous novelty sized balls, almost got his dumb a s s kilt down dare

    Duran was pretty much a master of fake hate. He was also pretty bloody convincing!

    Some guy called Ali could do it fairly well too (albeit with a massive twinkle in his eye)

    If I remember correctly, Naseem Hamed and Kevin Kelley could barely keep straight faces in the customary stare off after the weigh in.

    Hagler had to manufacture hate towards an opponent to fight to his best.

    From the little footage I've seen of the bout, Fullmer was definitely the dirty one.

    @BitPlayerVesti

    Every time they faced each other before the fight something foul happened, I remember Corbett spitting at Fitzsimmons, both of them threatening to fight before the scheduled match and actual gunmen being hired by both parties' corners incase of any foul play by either side.

    After the fight, despite demand by Corbett, Fitzsimmons denied him a rematch.

    One would think it would be somewhat difficult to truly hate someone who helped you earn the truly ridiculous amount of money their fight earned. And honestly, they both helped each other make money LOOONG before they ever fought. I have never thought of it till now but I am certain that many people chose to watch fights of both fighters just to compare and see what the fuss was about with either guy, thereby people who would have normally not cared to watch a Mayweather fight, or a Pac fight, did shell the loot out to see what the fuss MIGHT be all about

    Hagler and Hearns got on OK but went through the usual stuff on tv. Some of it was great though:

    Hagler really was so easy to touch. Slightest provocation and he was offfff. "That'll be an easy test."

    "Sign the contract! Contracts don't mean nothing..."

    But they got on OK. After the fight, Hearns visited Hagler in his dressing room and Hagler told him "you've got a lot of class coming in here." They shook.

    Hagler also shook with Duran. But before the fight which wasn't normal for hm. He really respected Duran.
