Just me, personally, if Hagler STILL harbors ill will towards Leonard, so be it. I don't expect him to feel otherwise, nor would I look down on him for it. Their fight isn't where the justification for such comes from. The ego tripping "come see my big news press conference an hear my awesome announcement.." is one of the most effed up things I have seen in sports, and the way Leonard ended it, after a build up obviously leading to a challenge to fight Hagler WHO, WITH HIS TEAM AND WIFE ARE PERSONALLY INVITED GUESTS to watch this good news, listening to Leonard butter up Hager a bit, straight up clout chasing, or at least I think that's how the phrase works, only to then do the 1984's equivalent of a mic drop and exit stage left...I think it is just crazy how the media darling Leonard didn't take much heat for doing Hagler like that. I read an old Sports Illustrated article on the title defense Hagler had im, I believe Paris, but if not it was somewhere in Europe, and the author says how Leonard, who is there to commentate for HBO, is, after the fight, with the Petronelli's I believe it was and he's is claimed to be heavily implying to them that the conference is going to include the challenge/call out of Hagler, bringing up how much money such a fight is gonna bring everyone involved, yada yada etc and I cant help but think this is likely the main reason Team Hagler went to the darn thing in the first place. Anyhow, I can't fathom how embarrassing that must've been to Hagler. Ohh how I wish he woulda knocked the block off the fool Leonard

Worth noting Fitz chased Corbett for a shot from his fight with Creedon. Fitz did way more to earn a shot than Corbett did. Plus I've heard Corbett's challenge had a load of conditions attached, though I couldn't tell you them.

I actually think Kid McCoy had a more legitimate right to a shot.

So Benn was lying when he frequently said how much he despised him? Uhh, okay.

And he went for him off camera at the Cafe Royal in 1990 and took 5 or 6 guys to hold him back.

Also attacked him on that Gladiator thing and had to be held back.

They aren't friends today. Chalk and cheese, nothing in common.

Your post here about Haugen's wit/humour brought to mind an odd thought about Larry Holmes of all guys. Basically, Holmes has always gone on painting himself as the Rodney Dangerfield of HW champions and getting his due is about the main thing ever mentioned during prefight tv pieces during his title run. Waaay overly to serious, and that attitude really backfired on him. Anyway though, I was watching the fights he had with Mercer and Holyfield and Holmes is doing all these in ring shenanigans that I thought were funny. Talking to the commentary teams, giving a noogie to Lou Duva at the end of one of the rounds, goofy stuff like that. More of that during his actual title run would likely have gone such a long way with fans.
    that is all

The rematch between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito was real hatred/dislike. Same with Oscar De La Hoya-Fernando Vargas, although most of it seemed to come from Nando.

Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales had some real animosity. More of it appeared to be coming from Morales. There was some class warfare as Barrera came from a middle class home in Mexico City and Morales grew up poor in the red light district of Tijuana.

Barrera was quoted as saying Morales was a “dumb poor Indian” or something to that extent. Morales said “yeah I was poor and now I’m rich, but he will always be a fa-ggot”

After they had their 3 fights they were interviewing Morales about his thoughts on Barrera. He said “I just treat people the way they treat me...he is a motherfukker!”

I think they are on more civil terms now but I doubt Morales likes him much.

The Morales and Barrera hate seemed pretty legit throughout their careers and for awhile after...
    “He’s still a mother******” ...Morales

    I love Erik Morales

Ricardo Mayorga and Fernando Vargas really didn’t like each other. Actually anyone with Mayorga really. Oscar clearly hated him after the way over the top trash talking Mayorga threw his way and he punished him accordingly. I think Mayorga slapped Shane Mosley’s old lady on the arse pre-fight which understandably antagonised Shane. Mayorga was a punk.

One case I’ve always disliked was Benn vs Eubanks, Chris really didn’t seem to mind Nigel at all Benn however he left me cringing at his forced hatred of an otherwise perfect gentleman.

Benn and Eubank, couldn't stand each other. Not sure now, perhaps mellowed over the years.
