So if you failed to save a life in a blazing fire, do you get paid? Afterall, you failed to do your job right? Look, i'm not trying to be condescending in any way. All i'm saying is, give the guy a break. His heart has been broken, he failed in his quest for retribution, he is the laughing stock (even more so now) of Great Britain and now potentially they are looking to take away his means of feeding his family. Let the man at least have some dignity and pride. I'm all for not kicking someone when they are down. It takes a vindictive person who lacks human spirit and empathy to do so.
I agree. His job is not comparable to a regular job either imo, completely different environment, scenario.
Actually, I whole heartedly disagree. I think he convinced himself he was going to win. The thought sounded great in his head but as the bout got closer, reality set in. The man is an extremely good salesman. He's Basically a con artist. Is it his fault he sold the fight to millions? No, course its not. He's just doing his job. I'm fully against taking away his purse. To even entertain the idea is ludicrous. If they were to do this, this opens up a whole can of worms. Will they be doing this in future bouts? He has taken a lot from the press and general public. Lets not kick him while he's down and strip him of whats left of his man hood.
I'll tell you this much, I would ****ing try and that is more than Audley did. Since your determined to defend this utmost coward. If I did not try in fact the city, the fire dept and myself personally would get sued. If you want to continue your analogy with the fire dept then Haye, the promoter and others would lose money too and it would go back to the fans. So you are completely wrong on your analogy. I would like to also po8int out, there is a difference between failing to do your job, hardly trying and not trying at all. Which one is Audley guilty of?
Look, i'm not insultng anyone. I don't believe comparing regular jobs to a life of a high profile boxer is exactly fair. I'm no statician, but i'm sure the rate of boxers who suffer short term and long term health implications are much higher than all the jobs you named above. After all, boxers have a very short career and very little benefits post career. All i'm simply saying is, lets not kick a man when he is at his lowest. We all knew this could happen. In fact, David Haye predicted this would happen. Yet, people still entertained with the idea that Harrison could some how be competative with Haye.
I'm not trying to defend anyone. If you read my earlier posts, i'm one of many disillusioned fans. I brought the PPV, i watched the 'fight' and i was extremely dissapointed with the event. However, i'm not crying over spilt milk and demanding my money back. Look, the man was overcome with fear, something that can conquer anyone. And i agree, if they are looking to take away one mans earnings, then take away everyone's. The promotor's, Haye's, everyone who was involved in this farcical event and refund it to the fans. What we shouldn't do is make an example of a already beaten man
Actually a large percentage of veterans suffer from issues related to war and that goes well beyond physical. I am sure there is no study done for you to draw that conclusion about boxers. I can guarantee you there are studies to support emotional and physical issues associated with war. Again....
They shouldn't take away his purse, the mere suggestion of doing so is farcical. I mean, Audley trained, attended press conferences, promoted the fight - that's all a part of the job too, and he definitely put some degree of effort into fulfilling those tasks. Unfortunately, though, he just isn't a great fighter. We all knew he stood no chance coming into the fight, and to be honest, I can't believe this bout even took place. To me, he just froze and cracked under the pressure of a major bout, and when you couple that with the massive gulf between him and Haye in terms of ability, you ended up with a dreadful showing from Audley. Sure, his effort wasn't great, but to strip him of his purse would be an injustice.
Not really, the only mugs are the british public for actually paying to see that farce. Not Audleys fault, he just wanted to get paid.
I agree, war is no joke. And im sure plenty of boxers suffer not only physical damage but mental too. Afterall, you are getting hit in the head for a living. I answered your questioned. It was not that he did not try. He was paralysed with fear. His mental makeup is clearly not as strong as he wants you to believe, hence the constant trash talk.
I agree to an extent. He did want to get paid but he also wanted that Heavyweight Championship contrary to popular belief. He just can't perform on the highest stage. It happens. People need to get over it.
I respect soldiers, police officers, fireman and top boxers who actually fight in the ring. They are brave men. Audley Harrison is not a brave man. Audley Harrison is a man who is terrified of being punched. Audley Harrison is mentally fragile and delusional. David Haye knew these things about Audley Harrison. Harrison was offered a lot of money to fight Haye because the fight would make even yet more money for Haye. Harrison has a wife and children to provide for so he accepted the fight, even though, deep down he was petrified of fighting David Haye. Ever since the fight was announced Harrison tried to convince himself that something would happen over than him getting KO-d. He tried to convince himself that he could win. The nearer he got to fight time the less he was able to believe his own hype. By the time the opening bell rang Audley was petrified. Audley, shitting his pants, froze. He could not have done anything else, understand that. That is his psychological make-up. Haye knew this all along and gloated about it, and has no shame about what happened. Personally I think Audley is a tragic figure. I don't know how anyone could have the heart to deprive him of his purse. There are villains in this tale. AUDLEY HARRISON IS NOT A VILLAIN. I am not saying take away 100%, take into consideration his time spent training and his team costs. He earned 1 million? was that pounds or USD. I assume pounds so that is 1,600,000 dollars. I think it is reasonable to immediately take away 50% of his purse and that is being generous. From his remaining 800,00 he can pay his team and taxes etc. That still nets him over 50% of 800k not bad for doing **** ALL in a world title fight where u cheated the fans.
