i never said you couldn't strike. and like i said i like the ufc sometimes but not better than boxing. i like the slams and ground and pound, and of course the striking but the submissions are what i don't like. yes they might end up on the ground but they don't end up in submissions. and who the hell said anything about kicking anyone in the balls? a good example of how submissions show the lack of fighting skills of a person was shown in the Lesnar vs Mir fight. Lesnar is what i call a "fighter". yes he has a wrestling background, but submissions are really what he goes for. he came in fists a flying and he was destroying mir, but then mir manages to get a submission on him and wins. that's total bs. mir just resorted to self defense and "grabbed lesnar's balls and squeezed until lesnar gave up," instead of fighting back
I cannot fully get into UFC. Whenever I've watched it to date, there's been too much hugging and writhing for attempted submissions for it to hold my attention. I do like the striking aspect and some of the KOs though. That said, I'm enjoying the new UFC game a lot. I tend to play as a full-on KO artist and that's pretty satisfying.
The fight last night (which I stayed awake for) was mostly boring, but the finish was impressive. Boxing is the most effective sport for striking but even though grappling on the floor is highly skilled, you can't beat a good KO! MMA will always come second to Boxing because of this.... but they are two different sports and each to their own.
****ing idiots Machida is a living legend. One of the greatest pure fighters i've ever seen. You morons just dont know what you're watching Boring is Floyd Mayweather running for 12 from Carlos Baldomir Lyoto Machida is poised, ready to strike and kill at and second. A split second is all it takes for Machida to end the fight For this, he's one of the most exciting fighters in the world. No boxer can compete with that high a level of instant fight ending ability
What happened is for a long time we were getting weak ass fights without the good high profile boxers fighting each other. The last two years has seen to bring about some sort of change.Go figure. I'm not a huge fan of MMA either but if you looked and see where boxing started it was similar to this alot of grappling ,tossing ,pretty much everything but ground fighting. For those who say MMA is like street fighting are dead wrong also first off there's weight classes ,no headbutts, nutshots, eyegouging, biting to name a few alot of things people don't like to admit they would do but when your getting your ass whooped on the street anything goes.
You are wrong, grappling is not simply a "self defence" art. Submissions are NOT a lack of fighting skills, they ARE a fighting skill. There is absolutely no logic to what you are saying. Boxing is a GREAT martial art, but it is a single one. It doesn't mean the others are of any less skill because you prefer artistry of boxing.
This was a chess match. I cant see why you would waste your time to compare, that fight last night showed that Machida is a fantastic elite technician who broke down a high class top quality undefeated opponent and finished by knocking him out.
I actually commented before I saw the video. I thought it was anything but boring and the ending fantastic.
Sorry bro, I should of put the thread starters quote in there, I wasn't referring to your above comment. apologies for the confusion. I love Machida he is like the Floyd Mayweather but of MMA. Some people may laugh at me but I have followed this guys entire career, he reminds me of a true samurai or shaolin type of guy. Meditating, getting right into himself from a spiritual standpoint, his focus and training and the way he lives his life is an inspiration to many who can appreciate that stuff. Most people on this thread who just bash MMA dont understand it. The same way they bash MMA is the same way a lot of people bash boxing because boxing doesn't always live upto the hype either so it works both ways. I appreciate your comments.
Mir didnt grab his balls, he used skill to take out the bigger stronger man, No different to someone like Floyd refusing to slug it out with someone like margo and instead opting to "outbox" him. Some people would say "real men stand and trade".
You don't box so stop lying to us. 90% of fights don't end up on the ground. How did you come up with that percentage? If you think girls are the only ones who kick in the balls, you're sadly mistaken.
