It wouldn't be any worse than judges who are doing the same thing mentally. I think the judges should at least have access to the numbers to use as a reference, but compubox numbers can be inaccurate and do not tell the whole story (cleaner punches, ring generalship etc).

Compu-box, despite it's impressive techno-name, is just 2 guys sitting ringside with a laptop. Literally. That's it.

Even if they were TRYING to input legit numbers (which clearly they are not) they don't even have as good a view as we do watching the broadcast. They're not even on 2 opposite sides of the ring, they sit next to each other! That means they CANNOT SEE half of the action.

Plus, of course, they are clearly paid off, especially during Pac fights.

If HBO wanted compu-box to be accurate, they'd have teams of people inputting data, from all angles, and each person would input for a single fighter. Then they would average the numbers.

Even better, they could very easily have pressure sensors embedded in the gloves. Seriously. With today's technology, this would only weigh a few ounces even with rf transmitters, and could be in the wrist area.
We'd have a dead-accurate tally of every connect, including how hard it landed.

I think last nights compubox was the worst I've ever seen. You realize compubox is tabulated and manipulated by humans right?

 

It's human beings pressing buttons.

Therefore human error will occur , punches will be missed , punches will counted that did not land etc.

No controversy will be saved.

People already argue about it near enough every fight.
