http://www.mmatorch.com/artman2/publish/UFC_2/article_13492.shtml Shogun will stay on the card, but he's gotta accept a fight first. They offered him Glover Texiera, but he and his people said no thanx. That is a very high risk, low reward fight. They should try get Gustaffson to fight him.
Wow, this is a bad run for fighters getting injured. :-( Agree that Gustafsson would be a nice fight. Either Shogun shows that he can still turn a young up-and-comer away, or Gustafsson makes his entrance into full-fledged contender status. :good :hat
Rashad Evans would be interesting, as both fighterers would be coming off losses. If Rashad isn't ready, Phil Davies.
I could handle Rashad or Phil stepping up. Actually it's cool that even with an invincible-looking champion, there are still a lot of good fights to be made in the LHW division. :good :hat
This is one of the biggest problems in MMA. the fighters dont fight that often but still have a ton of injuries to deal with. MMA as a result has the largest amount of cancelled matches in any combat sport that I know of.
Yeah, you're right. Light Heavyweight is still stacked. Because of this, when a fight is cancelled, UFC usually finds a decent replacement.
Yes, a lot of good fights to be made in the division itself but not exactly any good fights to be made in a Championship match. That well is pretty much dry. Even Dan Henderson isn't even an interesting fight despite how desperately people want it to be.
Shogun - Rashad. i suppose i could live with that fight ;-) Shogun - Hendo II ....hendo is fighting Jones. Thats too much time out of the octagon for Shogun
Why not have a trilogy fight with Machida. Speaking of Machida, what's he up to? Anyone heard anything about him?
It's a shame Shogun's people don't want the Glover fight. I say Shogun's people, because I'm sure that Shogun himself is willing to fight anybody. The guy has always been a warrior. That would have been a great fight, either way. Of course, it is a very dangerous one for Shogun to take, as Glover has a very real chance of beating him, and even though people who follow the sport closely know about Glover and how much potential he has, he simply isn't a big name in the mainstream, and a loss to him would be a huge blow to Shogun's career. So, I understand why they didn't want the fight, but I sure wish they had taken it. Gustaffson is the best option, in my eyes. He is more well known that Glover, and it is equally as competitive. I think that Alexander could definitely stick and move his way to victory. He has youth (fight years) and speed on his side. Shogun's best bet in that fight would probably be to take it to the mat and work his GnP and Jiu Jitsu. I actually think that whoever he gets will likely actually be a step up from Thiago.
