    Valid points.

I actually said the same about Tyson, as in his chin happens to be one of the most proven chins in at Heavyweight.

I see your point but you also can't say that Mayweather has a worse chin than Gatti. So far there has been no indication whatsoever that he has any problem with his chin. Up to this point in his career there is no reason to rank him below Gatti just because he has a better defense.

Mind you while Gatti has eaten bombs he has also been hurt or dropped by single shots, just look at his fight with Manfredy, he was down in the thir round off of one right hand from an average puncher at best.

Analyzing and ranking chins is a hard thing to do - so many factors come into play.

Well Mayweather would never take that kind of punishment because he fights a boring safety first approach. Mayweather was seriously buzzed against Corley, so I think he could be ko'd if hit square on the button.

I would def put Gatti's chin above Mayweather's.

Mayweathers chin is just like RJJ's. He has too much skill to have anyone land the perfect shot on it. I bet the first time it gets cracked by a hard puncher, everyone will say his chin is china, it's weak, he's slowed down blah blah blah... I would agree that Gatti currently has a better chin than Mayweather for the lack of due testing.

Of course Gatti's chin is above Floyd's.

I know what you guys are saying about someone like Gatti's chin being tested to the MAX, but PBF has taken some shots. Oscar nailed him with a few good rights that would've taken a lot of dudes out.

an average puncher can still punch:roll: even weak chinned fighters can take alot of punishment and even huge powerhouses cant knock or hurt there opponant....

there are so many intagiables abuot a knock out that weak chins i feel the differnce betwen glass and iron chin strength could be a very subtle differnce...maybe we would have a guy who wont get knocked out and maybe another guy who seems to drop at the hint of power but to be honest anyone can get koed ,hurt ,dropped what ever the weather somone is able to be koed hurt or dropped when a punch land on the whiskers

    for example

people put way too much emphasis on weak chins and strong chins...i have always thought this when i think about oscar bonavena.
now oscar was top chinned he took big shots and massive amounts of punishment from frazier ali lyle and patterson all BIG punchers and if not that could throw venom on every punch...yet he was dropped by a old zora folley and jimmy ellis:think bizaar.

i believe there is such thing as a chin but the chances of getting koed is higher than anyone seems to believe on this forum. you could say anyone was weak chinned and you actually would have a pretty good bet that that fightger in his career will get ktfo...look at A-Farce harrison not hurt or even dropped till williams and in that he got up and started to box and move and just shy away from a fight.

then against sprott absolutly gone like a light switch.

    :think just my essey

That's wrong. Fraudley was rocked by several of the tomato-can level fighters he was feasting on until he got in the ring with Williams. There were a few of us who noted this early on and predicted that his chin was grade A china BEFORE the Williams fight. And, there were even one or two of us who thought Sprott could be the guy to crack that crystal. :nod

As said before, there are different factors that come to play so it is hard to gauge. When it comes to Mayweather and Gatti's chins, well, we've seen one of those guys hit SOOOO many more times.

It was kind of strange with Gatti. It was like he needed to get woken up by getting dropped or hurt early on. He wasn't one of those guys who seems impossible to hurt. However, once he got dropped or initially stunned, it seemed like he was nearly impossible to put away. He would take a ton of shots, and wasn't exactly too good at rolling with shots. He took them flush.

It's extremely hard to compare that with someone like Mayweather who is harder to tag and rolls with shots better when he takes them. Or backs up and doesn't take the full effect of it.
