You sound like a young man with lots of ambition and little direction. Add in limited opportunities and a desire to prove yourself and you are a perfect candidate for the military. I mean this in the best possible way. Take the ticket out of town and work your ass off to get what you want.

As a 34 year old guy who worked from the fields to a nice office and a job in finance, I can tell you the journey is well worth it and (ironicly) the best part. I sometimes think of my 18 year old self and would give anything to have that confidence and "take on the world" attitude back; you display it so well.

    I wish you the best.

Also, I'm in the Navy and have been for the past 5 years but I decided to start taking up lessons with my goal being to try out for the All Navy team. Military isn't too bad a deal if you can ****ing behave and do what the **** you're supposed to. I'll be on shore duty in september so hopefully I'll wind up somewhere I can continue to train.

But why in god's name did you have to go to MEPS 5 times? My friend had all sorts of paperwork issues but she only had to go 3 times.

Dude if you only got a 45 on the ASVAB you need to maybe hit the books a little before venturing off into life. The ASVAB is basically a measure of common sense and some general life knowledge. I got a 98, but I was relatively smart in high school. My friend who went with me and was by all accounts not that smart (graduated a year late and everything) got a 60-something. You need to get over 60. At least in the Marines, that puts you into the Alpha section, which means you basically get whatever job you want. Is there an ASVAB prep book you could get?
