How many miles do you run outdoors per workout?

Do you have a decent pair of running trainers? I think shin splints can be caused by **** footwear. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You are not doing too much. Have you just started training after a long time out? Leave the running for a bit and the skipping.

Spend time shadow boxing - perfecting technique and footwork. A much better use of your time and it will give your body time to get over the shin splints.

    Good luck.

You should also investigate a method of running the Tarahumara use. They run barefoot over desert and rocky terrain for crazy distances (200 miles in a session has been reported). They have a fantastic running method. Basically you land on the ball of your foot as you run, not on your heel. This method has been scientifically shown to reduce pain in your shins, knees and hips by stopping impact recoiling through your leg.

It will also shred your calves. Seriously, if you can manage that method you'll have the calf muscles of a Greek god.
