Hello friends I am new to this forum.
I joined a boxing club I was a member I stopped going because of a injury called tendonitis in my forearms.
Iv been out boxing for 4 months or so.
I want to take boxing serious and start amateur boxing the problem I have is conditioning and stamina.

I train as a bodybuilder in the gym not at the moment because of the injury but I am thinking of doing cardio 4-5 days a week for 1/2 hour in the gym to bring up my stamina then when im back continue and see

    is that best to do
what advice would you give I am keen to get stuck in

Depends, how drastically do you want to sway from bodybuilder type training? Boxing is an endurance sport, so if you want to be serious about boxing, you need to understand that you're going to have to almost the complete opposite of a bodybuilding strategy.

If you want to do both for a laugh on the weekend, yes.

If you want to compete in either, no.

Squats and other compound movements are OK for strength. But bodybuilding exercises focus a lot on isolated movements for the sake of generating muscle mass. Muscles require a lot of oxygen and blood to not only support the weight but to keep moving. It's no surprise that bodybuilders, as tough and mean as they look, as some of the most un-athletic guys around. Ever see a bodybuilder try to box? You can youtube some vids, and watch muscular guys get completely gassed after 1 minute of boxing.

Yes, there are muscular boxers out there, esp the heavyweights. But their strength and conditioning can support the mass. And aesthetically speaking, the most muscular heavyweights would look under-developed and pathetic in a bodybuilding competition.

I wanted to be a baseball player, policeman, firefighter, infantryman, and cowboy when I grew up.

I ended up doing none of those things.

    Specialize, young man.
