Loved this fight. Great brawl between two evenly matched fighters and a great way to end a trilogy. Multiple knockdowns exchanged and lots of energy throughout.. I think I liked this fight the best out of their three meetings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd1XV4DFpW8
It was exciting, but what you saw was a worn down version of both men, especially the fat, sloppy Ingo. Ingo was miles from his peak version in that 1st fight and Patterson had slipped several notches from that perfect form he displayed in the rematch. Good, sloppy action though, I like it too...I love their trilogy.
It was the most enjoyable of their fights though probably the least significant. The first had Ingo causing the upset with the seven KD beatdown, the second had Floyd dramatically becoming the first man to regain the title with that scary KO that had Ingo out cold. Neither was at their best for the rubbermatch. You can see Ingo's body jiggling! Bit of an unsatisfying ending after the drama of the first two, though still good fun.
Like I said, I enjoyed all three bouts, all for different reasons. I loved #1 because of Ingo's strategy and awesome & clever delivery of the bingo in round 3....#2 because of the historical significance and drama of the bout....and that sensational left hook of Floyd's.....a GREAT and dramatic bout....deliverance and vindication, all in one....and #3,...the redheaded stepchild of the trilogy....but lovable just the same.....and like the 2nd,....good for Floyd,...one of my all time favorite fighters...loved to see him win on any occasion.....right @jowcol?
Reporters said Ingo trained the least for this, and he looked it. He ate strawberry cheese cake almost every night for desert. There was talk of an Ingo-Liston fight, but it never came off. Ingo had undeniable power, and Patterson said he hit harder than Liston.
Anyone know the reason for Ingo's seeming lack of motivation? How much much better could have Ingo been?
When Ingo first hit the scene, he was hailed as the new Jack Dempsey. He was handome and he could really hit. But, he liked the party scene, enjoyed being a celebrity, loved the girls, and hated to train. He was a good straight puncher, but he needed a trainer to really develop his left hook to be a complete fighter. Once his opponents were aware of his mighty right and learned how evade it, he had nothing to fall back on. I don't know how far he couldhave gone with a better attitude, better sparring, etc., but, his power was undeniable.
