WBA World Welterweight Championship (5th Defense for Curry)
IBF World Welterweight Championship (4th Defense for Curry)

    Donald Curry
    20-0 14 KO

    Colin Jones
    26-2 23 KO

Frank Warren Promotions, an exciting 15 Round Fight.

The 1st World Title Fight in Birmingham, England History
The 1st Million Pound gate in British Boxing history

In the opening frame of the 15 Round Welterweight clash, Curry used mainly jabs, hooks and uppercuts to keep Jones at bay. Neither man did much, Curry got the round on the two of the judges' scorecards based primarily on his ability to throw punches and by not absorbing a lot of punishment. The other judge evened the round at 10-10. This would be the only highlight for Jones.

The 2nd Round, Curry backed Jones up against the ropes on multiple occasions, pummeling his Wales opponent with blistering hooks, jabs and uppercuts.

During the 2nd Round intermission Dave Gorman, manager of Curry, and Trainer Paul Reyes scolded Curry to pick up the pace, utilize more combination punches in his arsenal.

3rd Round, Jones. was caught with a beautiful left uppercut, ripping open a gash across his nose. As blood fauceted down his face and in his mouth, Jones fought back valiantly. The end reward for a beautiful Three punch combination, Curry, now soaked in the blood of his challenger stalked Jones mercilessly.

The end seemed near, especially for Jones' manager Eddie Thomas. Thomas informed Jones to either "take him out or we're going home".

Sadly for Jones, just over a half minute into the fourth round Curry went on the offensive. Firing hooks, uppercuts that echoed of the face and body of the over-matched Jones. Referee Ismael Wiso halted the contest so the ringside doctor could examine Jones. It didn't take long for the doctor to diagnose Jones a TKO Loss. This diagnosis was too much for the Wales Welterweight to handle. Jones crumpled to his knees and wept openly.

The Public Address Announcer had to quickly remind the Birmingham, England crowd not to engage in the art of littering the ring with beer. As the beer rained down, to the tune of "Boos", Curry then knew he had became the victor.

Colin Jones had knockout power in either hand. Remember he gave Milton McCcroy hell in 2 fights.
Was one of the rare fighters who retired young aged 26 after Curry fight . Said later he was burnt
out since boxing since 9 and until Amir Khan was the youngest British fighter to qualify for Olympics.
If he was fighting today he would have decipitated Khan and though Kell Brook is the better boxer
his power would make it a truly enthralling contest.
