The fact that this man was bankrupted by the IRS is shameful. Just shameful.

When Louis died, as a gesture of good will, President Ronald Reagan waived the requirements and allowed Joe Louis to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Many may say it was a day late and a dollar short.

Also, I read that under public pressure after the Marciano fight, the IRS forgave the debt, which shouldn't have ever been a debt in the first place. I heard that because of the ways the law was written, if Louis had kept say one penny from what he made that night, he'd have never had the debt because he could've claimed the rest as a donation. But because he donated the whole thing, it was classified as "income" and thus he was taxed for it.

Just comes down to taking a man for everything that he's got, which plenty of organizations in the world are bloodthirsty and ruthless enough to exploit.

The worlds an awful place sometimes.
