This content is protected Very impressive considering Louis form at that time, he didn't run from him either. Farr was very good fighter at his best, he won against Baer (and lasted the distance in second fight). He also beat Loughran and Gains.
Many people thought Tommy Farr won that fight , me included. I watched it many times as a kid. A guy had a film of the fight & us kids got him to show it us many times. He was a big Farr supporter
Louis hurt his right hand in that fight, otherwise ,in his opinion, he would have stopped Farr.I'm not so sure.
Gains ,at 38, was pretty much done by then. "Tommy Loughran, former light heavyweight champion, last night dropped a 10 round decision to Tommy Farr at Albert Hall. Each weighed 191 pounds. The decision was so unpopular with the fans that cries of "robbery" and boos filled the hall for 20 minutes after the referee's decision was announced. British sportswriters were almost unanimous in giving the American 7 of the 10 rounds. Loughran's manager protested the decision and demanded to see the referee's scorecard, but officials said protests were useless as the referee's decision is final in England." -Associated Press Post fight comment "I thought I had won eight rounds. I'm not a crab but this is the worst decision I ever heard." -Tommy Loughran"
The general consensus is that although Farr fought gamely and was competitive, Louis was a worthy winner.
