I never expected any of this to happen. His kids need therapy I hope they grow up to be successful.

Am I the only one who thinks his in-cell suicide is suspicious? Weren't they watching him? People usually don't get put into cells that can be used for suicide until they have had a psychological examination.

i really think mentally he was ****ed up...having his brain have surgery then taking punches, he was probably more mentally ****ed up then we would know...boxing was probably his only escape...two tragic endings...may both of there souls rest in peace

I think the whole thing is just sad. Both were so young, he had such a promising career, they had children.

    Horrible all around.

It's likely that everybody in prison knew he wanted to kill himself and it was a gesture of respect for his boxing career that they looked the other way when he did it.

Whether or not he physically took his life or not, after he murdered his wife, he was already dead to the boxing world.

his kids are now orphans. lets spare a moment for those poor poor kids. to have their parents lost like this is just horrendous. one minute their daddy is a national hero- the most famous venezualan athlete. on the verge of joining the international elite. the next its all gone. i wonder if the growing pressures of global expectations + his brain injury contributed to this + the drugs and lifestyle. The guy was a trainwreck in his personal life, drugs and drinking. so sad. we ve lost 3 of our most beloved stars to tragic events in the past year. when does that happen!?!? it d be like losing derrick rose, rasheed wallace and ron artest in one year in basketball. just unheard of. these guys need to be looked after- receive coaching in how to handle the fame and lifestyle. they get 2 weeks rookie initiation in bball- but nothing in the nba. one would think that these guys of all people, need it the most. the pressures of fame and money are hard enough for anybody- but for prizefighters- they are perhaps magnified by the very nature of competiing in a blood sport that is gladitorial. where a boxing star often becomes an emblem for a nation.

Just tragic. This whole story is tragic. His poor wife, and his poor kids. What a waste. Was there no one around who saw the signs, that could help him? No one brave enough to speak up and say something? So many questions..

Sadly, years from now this travesty will only serve to enhance Valero's legacy. We'll all look back and speculate about a 27-0 fighter with 27 KOs and wonder..."what could have been". Let's take this time to look back accurately and say what WAS. A wild and exciting fighter who compiled a flawless record against less than spectacular opposition. THAT'S IT!!! A tragic loss for boxing and for the fighter's wife's family, but please do not make this man an immortal martyr of the sweet science as we so often do when a boxer passes prematurely.

Very very sad news! What a waste of a talent.
But before we all get judgmental, remember he had a very serious motobike accident which resulted in brain
surgery. Who knows what kind of damage he actually done in that crash. Not making excuses for the guy, but its worth keeping in mind.

Absolutley , boxing history is full of guys who could have been in that situation had they gone one ( admittedly big ) step further

Monzon , Robinson , Gatti , Leonard , Corrales , Tyson (obv) Ibeabuchi , Bowe , La Motta , etc etc etc etc etc etc

boxing isnt like other sports , at the end of the day these men have more in common with Gladiators than they do football players , its hardly surprising that they have trouble with real life.
