Think its going to be looked back on as equal to Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran.. Or close, depending on these next few.
I actually thought 126-135 has been better the past 10-15 years, with 147 being good as well.... tszyu and hatton reigned over a weak division at 140, but that's not their fault...
dont know it depends on the quality of the fighters who are around the top too. Back then you had polimino, Barkley, Cervantes, Cuevas, Benitez and Lang and nowadays you have Berto, hatton, Clottey, Judah and Collazo. Not saying that there bad boxers but we wont be able to tell until there careers are over. Pacquaio, Cotto, Mosley, Mayweather and Marquez could end up better than the fab 4 but theres a few classic fights to be had before we decide this
the 126-135 from 2000 untill now has been staggering .. one of the longest reign golden age there has been consistantly putting on awesome battles between all time greats
If you look at the great fighters that have fought at 130 since the year 2000, that is pretty amazing
I also believe this is the greatest Welterweight division of all time. The only thing that will put a cloud over it is the numerous jr. and sr. fights that have taken place now that wouldn't have back then.
One of the reasons that the welterweight/middleweight divisions were so great in the 70s was because they had the best: -Duran (Lightweight GOAT) -Leonard (Welterweight GOAT) -Hearns (Top3 Light Middleweight ATG) -Hagler (Top3 Middleweight ATG) In the current era you have.... -Mayweather (Not even a Top20 Welterweight ATG) -Pacquiao (Unranked at welterweight, but a P4P great) -Marquez (Not even a Top20 Lightweight) -Mosley (Top12 welterweight ATG) -Cotto (Not even a Top15 welterweight ATG) Today's fighters are good but not as good as Duran, Leonard and co.
