    Hey guys,

I think the Mayweather/Maidana fight was a mirror image of Jones/Tarver 1 down to the identical scorecards! If you go back and watch that fight you will see whenever Tarver trapped Jones against the ropes and in the corner he had much success and when Roy brought the fight to the center of the ring he controlled it. In both fights they had to pull out the fight in the championship rounds. In both situations, people were not accustomed to them being in competitive fights and they were both coming off virtuoso performances and were within two years of each other in age (Jones was 35 and Mayweather is 37). I scored both fights 115-113 (for Jones and Mayweather) and I had the fight dead even after 10 rounds. The official scorecards were absolutely identical:

    Jones/Tarver I:

judge: Jerry Roth 114-114 | judge: Glen Hamada 117-111 | judge: David Harris 116-112

    Mayweather/Maidana:

judge: Dave Moretti 116-112 | judge: Burt A. Clements 117-111 | judge: Michael Pernick 114-114

Good stuff, interesting observation... I do like the comparison for a few good reasons. I think Tarver did a lot better than Maidana did.

I think Mayweather won 117-111 but he was completely out of the pace of the fight. Maidana was far too sloppy to land anything flush; nothing with the whole glove or on Mayweathers' chin, almost literally maybe 5 punches landed all night that fit that criteria. Got smashed against the ropes and had no problem when he wasn't there...

I think the Mayweather/Maidana punch stats are pretty damn epic for several reasons.

-Maidana's punches landed on Floyd; most ever
    -Floyds crazy 54% accuracy
-The +/- difference in % landed
-Maidana throwing twice as many punches as Floyd
-Floyd out landing a man who threw twice as many punches

Dude, watch it. It's a mirror image of Mayweather/Maidana! After the fight some people said Tarver won but Jones pulled it out down the stretch. Just like with Mayweather, people weren't used to seeing Jones in a competitive fight and some declared Tarver the winner but smart, objective people who knew boxing and scoring gave it to Jones. Also, just like in this fight, the vast majority of boxing writers had it for Jones and at worst a draw.

it's a good fight dude. Jones was tired by rd 6 and yet found a way to gut out a win.

Very good points! I agree with them. Very interesting fight. I really think Floyd came into the fight with the mentality of wanting to make it exciting. He knows he is in the twilight of his career and only has a few more fights. If he had said after the fight (like he did when he fought Cotto) that he fought like that on purpose I would have called bull**** but he said he was going to do that going into the fight. I guarantee you that in the rematch he will keep the fight in the center of the ring, utilize lateral movement, jab and boxing circles around him like he did with Guerrero and Canelo and win in a more convincing, but much less entertaining fashion.

Tarver fought in 20-30 second spurts throughout that fight. He was always cautious and never really let his hands go. Also Tarver fought clean, no wrestling, fouling rabbit punches. , Maidana punched, wrestled, fouled the whole night. The two fights are nothing alike

Scoring was pretty the same, but the fight wasn't that much the same. Jones was pretty much fatigued and laid on the ropes to rest. Jones fought in sperts that whole fight because fatigue.

Right, but what I am saying is that in both fights, the superior boxer got off to a slow start, was bum rushed against the ropes and lost many of those rounds and won the rounds when in the center of the ring and was forced to pull it out down the stretch to secure the victory. Both fighters were coming off dominant victories, were around the same age and the scoring was identical with many fans calling it a draw or giving it to them with very few giving it to the underdog.

    Need to address that immediately.

Alton Merkerson told him he needed those last 2 rounds and an exhausted Jones gritted his teeth and went out there and got them against a guy who been dreaming of this fight since they were teenagers. And pay attention to the devastating body work Jones quietly put in.

That fight ended any debate about RJJ's will or fighting spirit.

So if Floyd and Maidona have a rematch, Maidana has to be sure and say "hey fraud, what have you got to say about my gloves now puto?" before the start of the fight.
