I get what your saying and you are right but as boxing fans its clear which fight should really be on air. Castillo vs Smith will mostly likely be a boring fight with Smith taking a boring decision. Even a rusty Mollo should put up a better fight and he can punch. The fight is gonna be good and Szpiz might have future where as neither Smith or Castillo have one. Actually they do have a future but as guys that will be brought in to lose.
Sadly, you're right about all your reasons the 8-rounder should get airtime priority - but I'm still pretty sure I'm right about my reasons why it won't.
if espn is looking to televise action packed fights, the szpilka fight should be televised and the broadcast should end before molina and spinks square off.
atsch....so you are saying for an average boxing fan Smith and Castillo would be a better option?...wow
In reallity no one here knows which fight will be televised...I'm simply pointing out your failed attempt at rationalizing why the almighty Antwone Smith bout would be a better option. :hey
I didn't say better. I said more likely, viewing it from the perspective of those in charge at ESPN. Their concern is ratings, not entertainment value (obviously - look at the ****ing main event!! ) They're going to feel they can draw people in with recognizable names, not exciting but yet-unknown prospects.
what's the contracted weight for smith-castillo? because if it's 147 or anywhere in that area, I like this fight. castillo's coming off a destructive win against popoca and smith when faced with smaller guys likes to get in tight and throw short shots ala toney. i'm excited for that fight. frankly, spinks-molina is a boring as **** clash. that fight has WACK written all over it.
I actually don't have a preference which of the two is televised. Smith/Castillo will be somewhat entertaining because I liked Smith's bodypunching against Cruz his last fight out. And did I read someone say "Smith was easily beat by Cintron?" Did you watch that fight man? Smith deserved the decision... Mollo isn't very good so that fight might have more ACTION but I think I'd rather watch Smith/Castillo.
After this I really want to see Spz again soon and against a name heavyweight. Maybe Seth Mitchel if he loses the Banks rematch or against Helenius or something.
