The guy has always been nervous, that doesn't mean you're not a 'tough guy', or 'badass'.

A staredown involves two people...if one doesn't look away first, they would be standing there forever. Watch the bout that happened the following night, look who won...look how they both stood there and traded in a great bout...yet your analysis shows that Froch may not be a tough guy?

Maybe he is expected to be a tough guy by his family, but I've also seen many people who are brought up that way, who adopt that tough guy role in their family. It doesn't matter how much analysis you put into it, the only solid evidence that is needed to show that he 'has balls'...is his run of competition over the last few years. Whether he is pressured into that competition in a way or not because of his tough guy role, it doesn't really matter...you are looking at the negative side of it. The positives being that he is challenging himself and his limits, if he didn't have that role in his family maybe he wouldn't have had the resume he holds now.

Once in the ring, your true personality shows because it's only you and your opponent...you very rarely notice the referee. Look at Froch's fighting style. If he was being pressured by his family, and if he was being forced in a way to portray that he 'has balls'. He would show his nerves before the fight (weigh-in, etc) in the ring. He would not be willing to stand toe-to-toe with World class opposition and come out on top.

So yes, it is more likely than not that Froch is in fact...'a badass'.

Its a crying shame Froch doesnt get the mainstream coverage he deserves in the UK, he should be getting more attention than Haye or Khan but he's nowhere near them in terms of exposure/interest.

The guy has won, lost then won back a world strap. His last 5 fights have all been against top competition. He's spent his whole career brawling & relying on his engine & chin to keep him going then turned in a great performance against AA. He boxed beautifully & completely schooled him, winning all 12 rounds in a fight I thought he would get sparked in.

The guy fights all the top guys, home & away. He can box, he can punch for 12 rounds & he can certainly take a good shot. If thats not a badass then I dont wanna see one.

I would take any of the fights he's taken for the money he's got for them. I'm 70 pounds above his weight and I'd even drain myself down to that weight against those guys for that money. It takes a lot more courage to go in the army then take a tough bout. Froch is ridiculously over rated because of his pretentous tough guy act and the fact that he's had the right fights at the right times. Pascal, Dirrell and AA won't do a great deal. AA lost convincingly against Miranda the first time. Time will tell.

I think the fact that Froch went to war in the fight is more important than the amateur psychology attempted by person that started this thread

Why do so many people care about staredowns???

    Listen very closely...THEY.MEAN.NOTHING.

Pacquiao has a big smile on his face when hes doing all that stuff, has to stop himself from having a giggle!

    Its just for cameras!

You are comparing fighting in a boxing ring to fighting a war. There is a HUGE difference.

Have you ever stepped into the ring before?

Not one vaild point in this post, I am afraid. Saying that Froch acts like a bad ass to make his family happy is pure guessing. And there is no contradiction in beeing a bit nervous outside the ring if you do bad ass things when the bell has rung. I fully understand your reasoning, but it is frail.

So, for the time beeing, Froch IS a bad ass. Now, remember to keep repeating this over and over again in every thread you participate in. I, and many others among me, certeinly will :bbb

Carl is from that same tough working class ,council estate background as Ricky Hatton ,

The culture is being able to down 10 pints of lager after a hard day on a building site and taking no **** from no man - its an identity that you grow up with and comes naturally to families from that background .

walk into a pub in any industrial town in northern england and you'll find half a dozen badass's - its not an act with Carl , its who he is.

I do think he's overated though - and Calzaghe would have schooled him Lacy style.
