This gets me everytime! Ishida vs Kirkland. Kirkland came in the ring 27-0 (24KO) against Ishida not known for his punching power who was supposed to be a tomato can. Ishida knocked Kirkland down 3 times in the first round in under 2 minutes to hand Kirkland his first loss. It was such an upset that they didnt have a translator on hand to interview Ishida after the fight. The commentators called him by the wrong name many times before during and after the fight. This just goes to show you on any given day you can be beaten and never underestimate you opponent (^^) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjiov7Dl1_w&feature=player_embedded[/ame] P.S. I dont want this to turn in to a mike tyson-buster douglas argument thread
LOL I'm a Kirkland fan stayed up late got all excited then was just starin at the screen with my mouth open and eyeballs poppin out, respect to Ishida though he's gettin a lot of fights from this win
ishida was brought all the way over to here from japan to be sacrificed in a round or 2. no one say that coming....but i agree, kirkland went in thinking the guy couldnt hurt him with a baseball bat.... reminded me somewhat when terry norris was the destroyer at 154, simon brown was moving up from welter and was considered "done" and gave norris a beating for 4 rounds until he stopped him in a huge upset
I likd kirkland but i do enjoy rooting for the underdog.. I was so happy to see ishida win... He was sooo happy!. There is no way you could not hate the guy
For as strong and hitting Kirkland is, he really have a terrible chin. Even before the upset you can see that he wasn't reacting to punches well. Perhap he put too much focus on Offense that he doesn't see the punches coming.
This fight just proved it is strange ass sport some times. Kirkland was so shocked it looked like he did not believe himself what just happened
Such a bizarre fight. Still laugh at the way Cortez climbed on top of Kirkland as he was trying to get up
I still think that was a poor stoppage! Why did Cortez jump on him when he was trying to get up. There wasn't a 3 Knockdown rule. Imagine if the ref did that to Marquez after his 3rd Knockdown against Pac. Kirkland proved against Angula that he can come back from a knockdown to win. Poor Stoppage
Cortez WAS the ref for Marquez-Pac I. Must've been one of his rare ON nights, like Bowe-Holyfield I. Because he's p4p THE worst in the business (outside of Great Britian of course :-D) when it comes to quick stoppages and just all-around ****-poor refereeing. Terrible, terrible stoppage. But hilarious moment nonetheless.
Lol yeah Ishida is a likable guy. . Haha always got that big cheesy grin on. . Just a smiling from ear to ear! Hahha his HBO picture for the tale of hte tape had him with the biggest smile I've ever seen.
no head movement and took unnecessary shots.I threw in the towel for Kirkland when he got put down by Angulo. The kid has heart and aggression, just sort out the defence.
I'm british, nd the stoppages we have to witness are terrible. Its so annying. I get that we have to save the fighters. But all the greatests fights in history only happened because the ref showed some leniancy. Kirkland was getting up straight away from that knockdown when cortez jumped on him. It was funny,
