As an ex-middleweight champion once demonstrated to me, wet leather being slashed across the skin of your face can do some significant damage. As can the laces on the inside of the glove as Calzaghe's opponents often find out.

At 1:52 of that YouTube clip it appears as though Calzaghe is rubbing his head into the fresh cut above Roys eye.

To be honest I find Calzaghe fights particularly frustrating to watch. This was even more worse during Jones vs Calzaghe in which I was literally shouting at the screen, imploring Roy to throw something, anything! Calzaghe's comically oversized head often seems a fairly easy target but Roy just didn't pull the trigger.

For the record B-Hop>Calzaghe and based on current form would take him to school should a rematch ever happen, which it likley won't.
