A lot of people are focused on Joe now we're close to the fight. People are asking questions like "Is he really good enough for this stage?", "Is another overhyped European?" or "Does a win over old Hopkins mean much for Calzaghe", but for me, this fight is more to do with Hopkins. In my eyes, he has more to gain than Calzaghe as far as his legacy goes.

If he loses this fight, he is 0-4 against the top 3 fighters he's fought. That is a very poor record against the elite, and I think it will get a lot of people looking back on his career and possibly coming to the conclusion he was the best of a bad era. If he wins, he has achieved something truly great. It would be easily his biggest win and would boost his standing at 160lbs, 168lbs, 175lbs and all-time. He needs this win.

For Calzaghe, I see this as another fight. I don't think it is as big as some say and maybe not as important to Calzaghe's legacy as the Kessler bout. However, this fight is career defining for Hopkins. He wins, he is an true ATG for sure. If he loses, it's debatable.

I don't see it that way. I consider his only real loss to RJJ. He clearly outboxed JT in both fights. And if he loses, he will be 43. That is a legit excuse. People can always fall back on that. Hopkins has little to lose and everything to gain while Calzaghe has a lot to lose and also a lot to gain.

I agree with a lot of what you say. Also I think how Calzaghe is remembered depends a lot on what Kessler does in the next couple of years.

I totally disagree with this assesment. Hopkins is 43 and an almost 3-1 underdog. He's not expected to win. Furthermore, Johnson, Trinidad, Wright, and Tarver are all better than Taylor(both the Taylor fights were really close, Hopkins was pushing 40, and many will argue that Nard should have gotten the nod). This would be a big win if Nard can pull it off. However, it won't hurt him much if he loses.

Taylor would have beaten the middleweight Johnson with ease, I think. 160lbs Trinidad/Taylor is a really close fight actually. I know it doesn't work this way, but Trinidad is 0-2 and lost every single round against two fighters Taylor is 2-0-1 with. You'd have to assume Taylor is better. Once again, Taylor already drew with Winky aand because Hopkins beat Winky, you'd have to assume that Taylor is a better fighter than Winky. I also think Taylor is a better fighter than Tarver.

I think it goes like this:

    Jones
    Calzaghe
    Taylor
    Trinidad
    Tarver
    Winky
    Johnson

If he is 0-4 against the first three, surely that affects im in H2H matchups with the likes of Monzon, Hagler and so on?

You're off here. Johnson was 32-0 and faced a prime Hopkins. He's also gone on to beat Tarver, Jones, Woods, and almost beat Dawson. Taylor fought a damn near 40 year old Hopkins and was fortunate to get the decision. Wright had the fight with Taylor in the bag. All he had to was fight in the 12th. Anyone who actually watched that fight will tell you that Wright is the better fighter. I definately don't think Taylor is better than Tarver. Styles make fights. Hopkins' style is better suited for Tarver than Taylor, and once again Taylor was fortunate to get the decisions over Hopkins. Tarver would beat Taylor with relative ease and is the much better boxer.

  8. Cali is 7 years younger, faster, quicker, better stamina, endurance, awkward, and has iron in his chin, Nard isn't a banger anyways) hasn't ko'd anybody since Oscar and that was years ago, and from a body shot:patsch nard can't fight a full 3 minute round for 12 rounds:-( Cali can you people that think the old fart will win are in for a rude awakening tomorrow..:|

    Calzaghe UD..

Stinky Wright probably is a better fighter than JT. But there is no getting away from the fact that 170 suited BHop more than Stinky.
