I recall reading a piece on Cliff in a Boxing News annual and it centered on him being robbed blind in his first shot at the Commonwealth featherweight title against Tiger Al Phillips. He did beat Teddy 'Red Top' Davis in a foray in the States. A good tough fighter.
The trainer in the film is one of the Gutteridge twins. The great one legged boxing commentator Reg Gutteridge was a son of one of those twins. The son of the other twin was a famous wrestler called Jackie Pallo
