Right, approximately 7 minutes to fight time, & Gomez is going to get hammered within 5 rounds MAX.

People on all the forums are letting their hearts rule their heads with all this backing Gomez to pull off the upset.

It aint gonna happen, & now Im off to watch the fight.

Anyone watching the Fewkes v Reid fight? Man, this Foulkes guy is irritating! Running & posing, flicking punches out but not stepping in with them. As Im watching it its approaching the end of the 6th, & Jim Watt has Foulkes one up???

I dont know how you can win fights running & posing, but no doubt Fewkes will get the decision as hes the prospect with the big 0!

Remind me guys never to watch a Fewkes fight again. The guy fights with Jermain Taylors style, but even more boring!

Yup, Fewkes gets the dodgy decision, as predicted. Crowd booing the decision, & by the way, Jim Watt was a disgrace & should be given the boot. Too much covering up a rotten performance by Fewkes. Watt just isnt honest anymore, a bit like Mcguigan.

can you imagine that fight happened in the states? Fewkes would have been lucky to win a round.

Yep. I've seen Fewkes (I think that's how it's spelt) a few times on Sky, and after careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that he is utter shite. His looks a bit fragile, his punching looks sloppy and weak, and his "tricks" are very tiresome.
Gomez is shot and is in for a hiding, although I wish he proves me wrong, (just so I can have some entertainment for my Sky subscription).

Credit to Gomez, he lasted one more round than I thought:good

In all seriousness though, it was a great fight, & maybe fewkes should learn from these guys how to step in with a punch!

It was a good stoppage from Vann, as Gomez was exhausted & could have been seriously hurt. Great effort from the mancunian though, he fought a better fight than I thought he would.

Gomez wants a rematch. He thought the stoppage was rubbish and his team questioned Micky Vann's integrity, calling him a "bent *******".

Gomez also claimed it was his job to take punches.:vonnecunt

Er, time to retire, I think.

That's fair enough. Problem is though, this bad patch lasted from halfway through round 2, all the way throught to the end in round 6.

I think boxing is going soft, that was a bull**** stoppage there is no doubt that gomez was losing and he wasn't going to win but he took those shots and was still coming back. I think this is a worse stoppage than any of the kahn ones people complain about, fair enough gomez was hurt but he wanted to continue. I think his comments where a little stupid becuase he hadn't looked like he was going to win, however if a boxer can and wants to continue the ref shouldn't stop the fight. It wasn't like he wasn't trying to throw shots back even after he was floored.

Lucky for Gomez you were not the ref. Just because a fighter wants to continue, that does not mean he should.
If he was caught out of the blue by one single punch, then he may have recovered. Truth is he had been taking big shots, flush, since round 2. The accumulation got to him, and was finished.
I don't know about you, but I have no desire to see a fighter take needless punches.

Good post. A boxer wanting to continue isn't the last word on whether a fight should continue. Systematic and steady beatings like that are what damage boxers in later life, not the one punch KOs. Good stoppage IMHO.

Gomez was starting to take more and more punches as the fight continued, as stated alot of the punches were flush, it was a good stoppage by Mickey Vann. Gomez could only stop so many punches with his head as he had a non-existant defence. Good fight while it lasted though.
