Where exactly was this stated? I've been following Miguel's career closely since 2003, and never once have I heard him dismiss a Mayweather fight.
The talk I heard about Cotto being not ready at this point came from Arum. I agree though. Mayweather-Cotto would've been best @ 147 in 2008, not @ 140 in 2005.
I can't even recall Arum saying that (though that's not to say he didn't say it). Who I do remember saying that is Floyd himself prior to the Gatti fight. There was an article online with quotes from Floyd and Miguel, where Floyd said Cotto was too green and needed more fights. Miguel said he'd fight Floyd whenever Top Rank said so and that he knew he could beat Mayweather.
Passive mentality. Not good thinking to make a fight with the universal P4P King and Cash Cow, especially when your current boss and that guy don't like each other.
This was in 2005 prior to Floyd fighting Gatti when both Floyd and Miguel were both promoted by Top Rank. Floyd was no cash cow in any shape or form and hadn't even headlined a PPV. He wasn't P4P king either, Hopkins was.
I was taking Jake at his word when he wrote in a scene article that Floyd asked Arum for a Cotto fight after he beat Gatti and Arum said no.
I see. The Floyd-Cotto biz always confused me. marg is a cheat, but I gave him his respect for being that vocal and direct about wanting to fight Floyd.
How does Mayweather stack up against the greats? Mayweather vs SRL....Mayweather wins! SRL..to clumsy, not as fast as floyd and has poor defense compare to floyd Mayweather vs SRR...SRR has nothing on Floyd. Floyd would beat him under 4 rounds. Mayweather vs Ali...Ali too fat for Floyd and too slow for him too. Floyd wins under 10 after tiring Ali with body shots. Mayweather vs Tyson...Tyson's get-it-done attitude won't help him against floyd. Floyd wins! Mayweather vs the world....the world aint got **** on Floyd. Floyd wins with one hand tied behind his back.
Well, like I said..it's completely possible Arum did indeed say that, I just don't recall reading it. Anyway, here are excerpts from the article I referring to in my previous post...
It looks like Floyd saw Cotto as a real threat, so he wanted to beat DLH first in order to secure his position as Cash Cow. Had he lost to Cotto, it wouldn't have been Floyd in there fighting Oscar.
Neither Cotto nor Arum ever tried to make a fight with Mayweather. Cotto was not even in Mayweather's league.
