Boxing is the art of punching. Footwork SUPPORTS your ability to punch.

There's people who have shitty footwork that can knock you out with an arm punch simply because they're naturally born punchers with heavy hands...like GGG.

Footwork is obviously important, but to say footwork is primary while punching is secondary is pure :patsch.

I had it 6-6. The fact that so many people had it both ways, says that it wasn't clear.

The OP thinks that winging and grazing and body punches that bounce off of arms and elbows are "POWER SHOTS" !!

Look at the film of James Toney stopping Jirov. In the beginning of his combination he hit Jirov with a solid hook to the ribs that not only stopped Jirov in his tracks but had him bending at the waist as he froze. Understanding boxing and knowing that unless it causes a knockdown/TKO Toney continued his combination with a two right hooks to the head and dropped Jirov.
Now, that is real body punching and an example of how it is used to open up round and fight winning head shots.

Not once in the fight did Canelo land or score with one of these REAL power body shots that caused Lara to show any discomfort or freeze from it's impact.
Meanwhile Lara comes back and scores with several combinations to Canelo's face that cause his head to snap back and stop him in hos tracks.

100 head shot versus 80 body punches? Come one you guys are just wimps who cringe at the thought of taking a body punch.

I can't believe that one of you actually is so stupid to say that you'd rather take 10 head shots than 1 body punch. If this guy's a boxer than i'm sure he has a serious losing record. :yep:lol:

    golovkin has great footwork.

I seriously had to sit and think for a sec how to respond this. Show me a boxer that gets hit with his eyes open. I'll show you a boxer who has reflex problems.

Lara landed more head shots, but they were not all that powerful. They were jabs. Power punches are anything but jabs. I'm not saying Lara lost, just saying the punch stats in this fight don't tell the whole story. Lara's defense was on point, but rarely countered. I think he could've beat the **** out of Canelo, just didn't make the effort or worried about the return.

I'm normally one to defend "runners", but what Lara did, wasn't entirely boxing. A lot of it was running.

closing your eyes as the result of taking a shot is permissible.

closing your eyes in anticipation of a shot rather than attempting to pick it off or defend against it is what guys with shitty defense do.

i'll show u a few guys who use their eyes to read offense so that they don't get hit with shots.

    floyd
    ward
    rigondeaux
    crawford
    lara

cotto is a guy who's defense isn't the best...but u never see him ball up and close his eyes. that's some amateurish ****.
