Cotto's defense is leaky,Floyd is too accurate and Cotto too open floyd's fast hands are going to stun him over and over again.
Cotto seems to get hurt/wobbled by shots he does not see and with mayweather's speed he will definitely not see a lot of Mayweather's punches.
Mayweather is a defensive master who is very difficult to hit he is very confusing because it's hard to find angles to hit him where it will be effective.
Cotto gets hit way too much, an accurate puncher with good defense like Mayweather will capitalize.
Cotto is there to be hit and we all know what Mayweather does to those type of fighter's like Corrales, Gatti etc.
Cotto is slow on his feet Mayweather would give Cotto so many angles Cotto will be dizzy.
I see this potential bout turning out just like DLH - Floyd Floyd winning on points, Floyd is just too fast too elusive and just the wrong type of fighter for just about anyone.

Except that Cotto is way better then Gatti and Corrales...

Also, Cotto cuts off the ring very well and once he will get PBF against the rope he will punish him over and over again. PBF will win the early rounds until hes starts to slow down a lot due Cotto's body attack and relentless pressure. Cotto will win those later rounds and make it a close fight.

I hope Cotto wins altought my head says PBF will win by a close margin. But in your text you almost state that Cotto has absolutly no chance which is completly false. He will give Mayweather is toughest fight in career.

i agree i dunno why people think cotto would win.... theres no way floyd would trade with him it would turn out just like the dlh fight.... jab .. clinch.. run around then get the decision ... cotto wouldnt know what to do an his defense is not as good as DLH so i think he would get hit with some reallly good shots...

In hindsight he is way better than Corrales. At the time, Corrales, like Cotto, was unbeaten and destroying everyone he faced. He was a top 5 P4P fighter and favored to beat Mayweather.

But they are very different fighters.

I don't care why he beats him, I want to see him beat him.

Basicaly, you say what every Mayweather fan says about a match between him and and other fighter. I don't see anything here that hasn't been said before a million times.

Problem is that Cotto doesn't have as bad a defense as you believe, his chin held up fine against Mosely, and he comes in behind a jab so he doesn't need to find alternative angles to come in with against Floyd.

    Point.
    Counter point.
    And now the circle.

Yes they are very different, Cotto is a better overall fighter then Chico (RIP) was.

1)Cotto comes to pressure behind is jab, while Corrales never threw a jab of his whole career.

2)Cotto is more versatile. He can pressure and Counterpunch if he has too.

    3) We can really see an improvement in Cotto's game in every fight. He was tested over and over again and always overcame the obstacles. Corrales never really needed to improve since he won all his fights so easily. He had talent but he never had to adapt and he missed some experience during The PBF fight.

4)Also, Chico had a really hard time making 130 at this point in his life...

But my point was, this is in hindsight. At the time, no one saw these weaknesses in Corrales' game. He had handled everything thrown at him and was on the brink or stardom. When fighters lose, then we suddenly see tons of weaknesses.

I don't have issue with any of your points. Just saying that at the time, no one was saying Corrales couldn't adapt, had more to prove, or wasn't versatile.

Cotto knows how to deal w/speed. Watch the Judah and Mosley fights. Chop Chop was fast too. Watch that as well.

This is a good post. But I will say that while Cotto is the better fighter, Chico was an freak in his division because of his physical stature. Much the same as a Paul Williams, but running through his division.

Cotto is the better fighter, Corrales was percieved at the time to be perhaps the bigger threat. So all in all, its a wash IMO.
