People have a tendency of emphasizing the points they wish to make while avoiding valid points that diminish their arguments of same points.

Like Johnson, Andre Ward clinches, throws short, inside arm punches that score and do damage.
Ward pushes his weight on his opponent wearing them down, while scoring inside and then he may stand on the outside and pop them with the jab.

Ward and Hopkins style of fighting is close to that of old school fighters like Johnson and Sullivan. They both have above average modern endurance, and they both would probably do very well in the 15 round era.
Their style is much different then excessive clinching while throwing rabbit punches to your opponent's head as we see from today's low endurance HWs.

Fighting weak opposition and/or draining a solid opponent has a lot to do with them not putting up much of a fight. The few times he's faced a really solid opponent, they've put up a fight and made him look human.
