True, I just get so tired of all the hype about boxers being tough and then the ref stops the fight because of a bloody eye!

Neilson.com ratings also back up MMA is crushing boxing. Go look for yourself. I think you are confusing UFC with all of MMA did you know that SHOWXC's rating's were 3 times HBO''s Sat. night boxing?

My point is also that MMA will soon be on a major network that 100% of American have for free (CBS) when boxing is mainly on SHO and HBO that only 18% of American get and the ratings are abisimal.
I grew up boxing and love the sport but the fights are better watching ESPN classic than the dancing that's going on today.

I wish boxing would come back on prime time. I remember watching it with my dad and it is what made me a boxing fan. So many kids now don't get to watch the fights of legend unless their dad shells out a small fortune hoping the fight he paid for will be one of legend.

Back on topic, two different sports. Its like football and rugby. Very similiar but yet so different. Neither sport will steal the fan of the other. You may have people who enjoy watching both but one is not stealing fans from the other.

It's more about average joe fans. They are the ones who bring in the PPV numbers. Obviously if you're a die hard boxing fan and don't like grappling there's nothing gona make you change your mind.

I bet I could go to a ufc event and ask them what other organizations are out there and over half wouldn't know. I could then ask them to name five non ufc fighters and I bet close to 80 percent couldn't do so. mma needs competition to be a long term success, and so far it's only the ufc who is making any money, that's a huge negative for the sport, and might be it's death knell.

The reason MMA has been so successfull of late is because all the top fighters from pride came over and we are now seeing for the most part the best fighting the best, why would comp from another org be better??? then we will have the same prob as boxing, too many champs, belts and people don't know who the best are. IBF,WBA WBO and WBC are boxings version of competition and look how well that turned out, I like having the best fighters in 1 org which usually means great cards as well so the ppv's are worth buying.

I agree that UFC consistently puts together better cards based on their big names, but that's because one guy (Dana White) calls all the shots over there, and the fighters don't have much choice but to do what he says. I think the fighters are starting to realize how much they're worth and a lot of the big names are saying "**** Dana". Meanwhile you have other guys like Mark Cuban trying to get in the mix and promote fights, and I can only see it becoming more and more like boxing.

True enough, There has been alot of new orgs start up in the last couple years, it's hard to make everyone happy, not to mention getting offers from other companies keeping all the top fighters is almost impossible.Dana can be a ***** but he said from the begining that he didn't want the sport to end up like boxing where promoters and TV networks are the ones who run the show.

Does the UFC have a choice? If there cards were crap they`d sink faster than the Titantic. MMA could have done with PRIDE. Competition is always great for sport. Now that the UFC is the face of MMA that leaves them in a niche market.

Yeah, but its getting to the point where it doesn't matter what he wants. His little monopoly is great for him, but the fighters need to look out for their best interests.

SHOXC did 4x the ratings of Katsidis Casamayor I could tell you the first name on the card but it was great! Why? Because they fight! Remember when boxers used to do the same?

Casamayor and Katsidis didn't put on a good fight in your opinion?

Yes, in fact it was a good old school fight, from Katsidis at least, it was but a terrible stoppage.

nah. boxing is infinitely more brutal. in the ufc one can tap out but in boxing the only way out is to get ktfo. all of the punches to the face can really add up.
