Telling me that "i'm a joke" , (an ad hominem attack , brilliant argument pal ) doesn't change history or evidences. Machida has been using the same gameplans for years....YEARS...and it's still working to this day. But that's almost beside the point... The machida vs Penn ex , clearly demonstrates that GSP's domination over Penn...or should i say , total , annihilation of BJ Penn...wasn't solely due to size difference. GSP was extremely dominant because he's way more skilled...as simple as that. Penn's fight against Machida was more even and competitive...On the other hand , GSP vs Penn was totally one sided. Since GSP is not as big as Machida. It's clear that his skills made a huge ****ing difference. So anyone who's trying to give the "penn was fighting a bigger opponent" excuse , is missing the point.
Best ever doesn't necessarily, and probably shouldn't, be about your "career as a whole". Sugar Ray Robinson lost a lot of fights towards the end of his career. Bernard Hopkins lost his very first fight as a pro. I think best ever means that there is a version of him that we've seen fight many times in a row that is the best ever. Obviously you can't base it on one fight, but its also a mistake to point out old old flaws that have surely been corrected.
anyway , that's what it means to me. Not only that but i'd also add that "best ever" insinuates that his achievements have no equal. That he has surpassed everyone else in terms of achievements. (it isn't the case...not yet)
Penn fought Machida in a ring. If Machida fought Penn in a cage it wouldnt be competitive at all. And, Machida is better now than he was 5 years ago. He does have a similar style but its much more refined now. Penn is just as skilled if not more skilled than GSP at their respective weights. Penn finishes opponents in a variety of different ways. GSP outweighed Penn by nearly 20lbs not to mention had a massive strength advantage over him. And yet, STILL couldnt decisively finish Penn with a submission or TKO. Penns corner threw in the towel after 4. GSP is skilled, dont get me wrong but it would be foolish to think hes more skilled than GSP. Take away GSP's athleticism and hes just another WW. I cant say the same about Penn.
