In the modern era of internet and cable, Pacquiao-Hatton must be the biggest fight ever. Even CNN joined the fray. It's rare ocassion that CNN features a boxing match and the boxers themselves. I think this is my first to hear about boxing in this snooty network. Boxing is back in the mainstream. Thanks to Manny, Ricky, Roach, Floyd Sr., Arum, Goldenboy, the hardcore boxing fans and the media hypes.
Not in the U.S. I can't speak for other countries though. Hatton and Pacquiao are huge stars in their homelands.
hmm says.... The fight is big but I don't think a lot of people in the u.s. are catching on in general cause of basketball and baseball right now......
The Hatton v Mayweather fight seemed to gain much more attention over here. Probally the USA v UK thing helped it. Still one of the biggest of recent years.
Rofl. Floyd vs Hatton and Floyd vs De La Hoya was way bigger. This fight will be lucky to do the formers numbers. It aint touching Floyd vs De La Hoya.
Their styles easily suggests that it will live up to the hype UNLESS Pac dominates Hatton like he did with DLH which I doubt because even in losing you would expect Hatton to put on a fight. He did it with Mayweather and almost everyone he fought. I can safely say that it WILL live up to the hype UNLESS a cut occurs or any of that which I'm hoping it doesn't.
You're right and I'm quite excited about this fight. But have you seen any previous boxing fights featured in CNN? Not even Floyd, dela Hoya, etc. were interviewed. CNN is actually biased for other sports like boxing, soccer, crickets, etc. other than boxing. It has nothing to do w/ my being a Pac fan.
Mayweather-De La Hoya made the cover of Sports Illustrated, the biggest sports magazine in America. In this day and age, that's very rare. I think the last boxer to graze the cover prior to that was Tyson before the Lewis fight in 2002, and that was Tyson only, no Lewis.
There has been no bad blood in the build up to the fight, both Hatton and Manny are good guys. That's why hype has not gone OTT.
