I am obviously referring to the hype and publicity here. Sorry to **** on your parade, but people EVERYWHERE were talking about Hatton vs Mayweather, even in Leeds - where the vast majority of people HATE those from Manchester (and vice-versa). Hatton vs Mayweather >>>>>>>>>>>>> Hatton vs Pacquiao in terms of UK publicity etc. Sorry, but true. Ask the question as a poll on the Brit forum....... you may get laughed off the forum, however. :hi:
Care to read my first post? Was there internet and cable tv during that time which I cited as factors for making this fight a bigger one? Why should you base your judgment in your locality? That's too myopic and parochial, I should say. Don't you know that we now live in a global village where communication is thousand times faster than in the Tyson era?
Pre Hatton/Mayweather every day in the week leading up to the fight at least 5 people a day asked me my opinion at work. This week I've had to seek conversation. This fight is not big in the UK. It will sell just as much as any Hatton PPV does because the casual follower man on the street and non-boxing fans couldn't tell you who Pacquiao is. They couldn't tell you who Mayweather was either but they ended up hating him and turning it into a big occassion.
HBO has been showing live Boxing since 1978. So no, I do not think you can lump internet and cable in the same era.
Exactly. Same for me as well. But these *******s just don't understand. Sometimes it is better to keep schtum and have people think you are stupid, rather than speaking out and proving it :deal
I'm sorry but you didn't get my drift. I'm talking global and you're talking local. That's not a good basis for measuring the degree of hype and promotion of the fights. Was there 24/7 in HBO then, interview features in CNN for both fighters, BBC news coverage (which usually features football, crickets, tennis, and not a spot on boxing), top newsprint media all over the world, etc. To some degree these factors have helped boxing in the long run and I am happy to say that there is a renaissance of boxing all over the world because of these hypes and promotions.
Blue Ray, You're getting carried away by the hype. For a start stop using company talk about "Global village" because you make yourself sound like a twat. Whether we have Internet now or not does not mean it is a bigger fight. If the man on the street isn't talking about it then it's not as big as previous fights. Hardly ANYONE is bothered about this fight unless they are a boxing fan. Maybe it's different in Pac Man's home country but his popularity at home is unique and therefore should NOT be used when guessing how the rest of the World sees things. For the record, and maybe others in the UK will agree, Haye vs Klitchsko is attracting more interest from the man on the street and thats not until June. Finally do a look on bbc's website and you'll find that they have always had a boxing section and we've had cable tv broadcasts of fights since the 1970's and before that you went to the cinema. Boxing has always been available to the world.
Just because you're losing an argument and make a fool of yourself in this discussion, you resort to calling me *******? To be a *******, btw, is a badge of honor. I don't resent that. I even want to thank you for that honor. :good
It is one of the most perfect pieces of match-making in boxing history. But it's not the biggest fight ever, because it doesn't feature an American star. Ali-Foreman was bigger.
Reaistically, aren't we in a Global Village? Do you deny that information fly faster than say 5 or 10 years ago? In a few hours, you and I would know the results of the weigh-in, does that not come to you as if we are living in a small village? :deal Talking about people in the street? Have you made a survey on the people on the street? Where? Was there a survey conducted in the streets for the fight you are talking about to give you a sound basis of your assessment? atsch
How do I put this politely... Bollocks, I won't... You're a boring twat who is annoyning us. **** off, stop jerking off about Pacquiao and get a girlfriend. NO ONE AGREES WITH YOU....
