This Picture Says Alot About How Good Hopkins Is

He's a different fighter. He's much more intelligent and cagey now than he was then, but I think he was stronger/faster and punched harder 10 years ago.

Hopkins never relied on his athletic ability to win fights in the way that Jones did, and thus as he got alder he didn't lose what he had. As he says at the end of the Pavlik fight....he'd just fought 2 unbeaten P4Pers and barely had a mark on his face.

The guy is quite simply a marvel!!

 

Come on, he deserves better than being compared to some street punk who needs a gun. What 'gangsta' can fight like that at 45?

Haters are treading that "boring" **** but as an old guy myself, I found BHop's performance pretty ****ing inspirational. Got an extra bounce in my step today! The man's a national treasure.

 

I don't believe that at this point people are still surprised at what they see when they watch a Hopkins fight. People who like his style will watch him, the rest know better then to expect excitement and firework so they avoid watching in he first place.
The man is 44 years old, he's not going to change his style now all of a sudden, so if you don't like his style don't watch his fight or shut the **** up already.

Of course he's fundamentally sound, or else he wouldn't have his page on the Bible of Boxing for Chrisake! You gat to give it to him even more so cause he's so smart... If you are a fan of his today, definitely try to watch some of his old fights, meaning pre-Trinidad. I even like watching some of his pre-Jones "coming up" fights. You'll be shocked by how offensive minded he was, and you'll also be shocked by how insanely good his left hook was in close quarters. In later years the right has become his weapon of choice because it's a shorter punch and he knows he isn't as fast as he used to be.

I think he was already in very, very slight physical decline even at the point where he fought Tito. He more than made up for it with technique, but you already see him being extremely measured with his output at that point.

The Hopkins who fought Glen Johnson, now that was a beast. Every punch in the book, insane footwork, looked like he could have gone twenty rounds comfortably.

 

The guy knows how to box... Hopkins is a badass
