Liam Davies vs. Andrew Cain - cancelled Brad Foster vs. Ionut Baluta - cancelled Show still going ahead.
With what, or is it foolish to ask? Two hours of Steve Bunce and John Rawling swapping stories? Carl Frampton shadow boxing extravaganza? I know there's mitigating factors, but the decline in the regular BT sport shows has been marked.
Sad card this one. Featherfisted Cunningham fighting a featherfist from France as a headliner. Co-main is Nathan "featherfist" Heaney fighting someone called Diego with a 19% KO percentage. 9 of 10 home fighters have never lost a fight, and that's not because they're so good fighters.
Frank’s shows are so weird these days, and seem to exist purely to promote and sell BT’s PPVs. They’ll go ages without a show, and then there will be a few packed together when a Fury or Jake Paul PPV need selling. Often the main events are a decent enough British title fight or something, but the cards tend to be filled with horrendous 4 and 6 rounders featuring up and comers against journeymen or jobbers that have no place on live TV. This show does look particularly rough though.
Yeah, because if Tyson wins nobody would be interested in seeing him fight the Usyk/AJ winner or Joyce etc. No boxing fans are interested in seeing Andrade v Parker or Joyce v Parker which is scheduled for June or July either.
Fury’s said he’s retiring (lol) but I didn’t mean cancel all cards and fold the company, more leave it to Francis and let him a crack at it.
It's a shame because at first the BT shows were pretty good. Not just the main event, there were some decent competitive scraps further down the card, with maybe one of the 'learning' fights at the beginning. Although Sky/MR had the bigger names there were some really good fights on the BT cards. As you say now it's just full of dire mismatches puffing the records of whomever QP has signed. I get that they lost some of their big signings, but it doesn't explain why the rest of it is so poor, unless BT Sport, with problems of their own, have slashed their funding?
I can fully agree with your views. During the period when Frank Warren switched from BoxNation to BT Sports, the quality of events was actually quite good, but since then it has gone downhill. Many of the fights on the undercards today are indifferent.
The lad Cain is fighting instead isn't a mug to be fair. This could have been half decent the card. But has fallen out.
Frank Warren should consider moving the event to Friday to avoid coinciding with Matchroom and Boxxer shows that evening, but that's probably hard since the arena is booked in advance.
Feels like Frank is resigned to Probellum maybe taking his deal once the BT merger is complete. Definitely feels like a winding down. I get deciding ti not risk anyone but there’s fights to be made against opponents that atleast are intriguing. Heaney for instance is being built but fighting a cab driver could he not have fought Brian rose?
