The problem with this is Greb had a chance to prove this. Not only did he not prove this most of his peers did.

Ipse dixit arguments are inherently unpersuasive.

During Grebs era it was normal for MWs and especially LHWs to go up to HW. And most of Grebs ATG rivals had more success at HW then him. Langford and Miske actually did what Greb is bragging about here and took out superheavys. Loughran beat all his larger opponents except Carnera. Greb didn't do anything like this. He went to HW and won fights but it was a mostly empty streak.

Today given the way the sport is structured no one would expect a champion in the 160-175 weight range to go up to HW at all. If a great like Hopkins made a claim like this well he never really had a chance to prove it, he was always tied up fighting for this title or that title. Greb could have very easily put his money where his mouth was.

    Hi Buddy.
Just been mulling over your post, couple of observations if I may, Greb wasn't bragging when he said he liked to fight the bigger fighters, it was a statement of fact when you consider the bigger fellows he fought and beat, the likes of, Weinert, Norfolk, Renault, Meehan, Miske, Tunney, Brennan, he gave away anything from 20 lbs to 34 lbs against the above, as far as I can ascertain they were the HWs of his day, lest we forget he was serious about fighting Dempsey, but had to settle with humiliating Jack in a sparring session, as for putting his money, etc, surely no fighter in history did as much, he fought everybody and anybody, he was totally fearless, and couldn't care less who was in the opposite corner, size, weight, height, resume, they mattered not a jot to Greb, add to this he fought black fighters when his illustrious peers, were papally avoiding them, for me he is the No 1 in the middleweight division, and only Langford or SRR, would I put above him in a all time ranking, just my thoughts buddy that's all.
stay safe HZ26, chat soon .
