Seriously its only just passed the first round but already the whole tourny is tarnished because of hometown refs that let you headbutt and cheat all night to win:verysad

showtime should just cancel the tournament right now because after last night most europeans will know to never fight in the US again.

Yeah Froch got away with many dirty tactics in his fight also, but the ref didn't say a thing, strange I thought it only happened in the US.

Given the horrible hometown bias shown towards Froch, I'm assuming the above statement is meant to be ironic/sarcastic?

Two of the three fights so far have sucked because of shady tactics, that is true. Let's hope we have more Abraham-Taylor type of fights and fewer of the other kind.

The tournament has taken some early blows to its credibility, I agree.

i felt Dirrel won but he was using a lot of suspect tactics himself. Just as Froch was...

A hometown is a hometown anywhere i guess

Not at all ruined. This is where you so called boxing fans are deluded. I wouldn't be all too shocked if Jermain picks up a title, Kessler bounces back from defeat and Abraham puts on another knockout highlight reel in the very next round.

I wouldn't say it's ruined, but promoters needs to sit down and come up with terms regarding venues, refs, judges, illegal tactics etc. to clear things.

as if all of those issues have been completely resolved in boxing outside of this tournament.

Agreed. You have three guys so far that have shown they will use dirty/spoiling tactics: Ward, Dirrell, Froch. Yes, Froch was reacting to Dirrell's track meet but still he was dirty as hell.

Any fights involving these guys must involve a neutral ref, not a hometown guy. After the fights in Nottingham and Oakland, steps have to be taken to make sure that this isn't repeated throughout the tournament or the thing could implode from outraged fans, whoever they're rooting for.

The judges must be dealt with, as mentioned. There cannot be a situation like the last-minute replacement of the judges in the Ward-Kessler fight.

I'm not as concerned with the venues as long as the refs and judges issue is fixed. Yeah, hometown crowds can influence judges, but you have to fight somewhere. Ward shouldn't get all his fights in Oakland, if that's the case. I will agree with that. But no other fighter should get all their fights at their own place, either.

Get fair, good judges and refs. Tell the fighters dirty tactics will not be tolerated. Start taking more points. DQ guys if you have to. That should get rid of the crap we've seen in two of the first three fights. Last night should be the lowest point of this tournament, dirty tactics-wise, if the promoters and athletic commissions get things right.
