Agreed, anyway getting back on point, I will be routing for Paulie but I'm expecting Diaz to win on points but in a close fight (although I'm expecting some shocking judges scores in favour of Diaz).
Paulie is one of those guys that no matter what **** he talks, he is still a really endearing kind of fella. I still think Diaz has too much for him though, plenty are writing him off based upon the Campbell loss and the stoppage defeat to Marquez.... but I personally think that JMM is becoming a better puncher the higher he goes.
Oh yeah, I don't doubt that most people are fond of him. For me, Paulie is one of the forgotten role-models of boxing; I have an immense amount of respect for him for turning his life around. As for the Hatton loss, I can understand him feeling pissed about the corner retirement (as Gaz says) but aside from that I suppose it's very hard for him to accept how outclassed he was. Must feel even worse now considering how easilly Pacman dispatched Hatton. It's corny but it reminds me of that scene in Rocky III when Rocky says, 'you think all these years you've been a winner (in becoming a champ and retaining the title) but you're really a loser'. Perhaps that's the way he now sees it. Who knows, I'm just guessing. Must have been difficult to come to terms with such a one-sided loss, though.
this is gonna be a pillow fight, with diaz winning a clear decision, one thing is guarenteed paulie will blame his hand and his trainer after the fight. hes got a new trainer right? I think Mcgirt was treated badly. Buddy is a damn good Trainer....not his fault Paullie wanted to circle into ricky's power hand. All you can do is train hard and give your fighter the best advice...which is what Buddy did. Buddy is an excellent trainer and actually foresaw PM getting walked and stalked down like Cotto and eventually Ricky I remember Buddy talking about his concern on Paulie's discipline/lack of to keep angles but circle drifts into the cross hairs; something a pillow puncher can't do unless you can squat on the toilet for 36 mins a la Pea. Buddy showed his worth by making Tarver way more competitive in Dawson II after Tarver's people begged him back. many people have trashed Buddy but its absurd, he gave Paulie the best advice and thats all you can ask of him, he worked wonders with gatti and its really the fighters who mostly make the trainers, if you train garbage you get garbage results. Paulie should just retire. I'm really looking forward to jacobs vs smith on that card. I think it might be the fight of the night, Jacobs has impressed me on occassions, but i'm not sold on him yet, this a good step up for him from the ESPN FNF and mega fight undercard cans he's been fighting, smith will pose some questions. Jacobs is a kid with a good head on his shoulders, good skillset although not much pop, interesting to see how he fairs. (I posted this in another thread, to lazy to right anything else)
Hatton was a bad style match for Paulie. To beat a pressure fighter you usually either need a decent punch to kep him honest, good movement to keep him out of range or to just be a better inside fighter. Paulie had none of these options.
He should find himself in the same situation tonight. The only thing that is slightly easier is that Diaz isn't as physically superior or really a spiteful puncher. Still...if Diaz does what he can do I don't know what answers Paulie has got to 1000 punches.
Nobody knows what time the fight will be on..as always it depends on how the undercard develops. There are two fights, Jacobs/Ishe Smith and Guerrero/Klaasen. The coverage is starting shortly...so I'd guess around 4 (presuming you are +1 hour of me)
Max Kellerman and Lennox Lummox as 'analysts' Could it get any worse? It's kinda like having Jamie Redknapp and Garth Crooks in the studio.
I'm holding up the fort here lads...pull it together Danny Jacobs rehydrates from 159 right up to 175
