Cotto's chin is average but he makes up for it with good recovery ability. Getting hurt is fine but how quickly you can recover from it is key.

Cotto's biggest problem is that when he's hurt his equilibrium goes nutty on him and his legs wobble around all over the place. Fortunately though, he has prety strong legs so that helps him to stay up despite the punishment. He's also obviously very good at surviving those spots in which he is hurt.

    jlriver81 ...

You haven't heard of Cotto being hurt by Zab Judah or Shane Mosley? ... Shane's Dad was like "Shane don't let up on him, that man's hurt ..."

Or Cotto having to low blow Judah just to recover ...

Thats two ... he's only had 5 fights ... and the 2 times he's step up to elite fighters he's been hurt ... not to hate or anything but he has been hurt at 147. He recovers well but the jury is still out on his chin ... and his ability to defend the right hand.

I don't think his chin issues had anything to do with weight ... it didn't have anything to do with Felix Trinidad's weight ... I think it is what it is.

The 3 guys that he fought that didn't hurt him ... (Quintana, Urkal, and Gomez) never done anything significant in the sport and never achieved anything of great note (even Quintana's win over Williams is in question now that he got KO'd in round 1 in the rematch)

His chin isn't better than Margarito's ... (even though I question who he's been hit by) ... I think that most experts and boxing writers will say that if someone is hurt early its going to be Cotto.

THANK YOU, a "weak chin" would have been finished after all those A-bombs connected, seriously Cotto survived a hell of a storm in there, maybe he should have went with the headbutt LOL..

Cotto lacked defense not a chin.

margarito was rocked in the second santos fight, weight difference or not.

Its unfortunate that ALL of Margo's fights aren't on youtube to b analyzed like Cottos whole career is.

Cotto was hurt in fights ... thats just as bad as going down ... Jose Luis Castillo never went down against Corrales but he was still stopped.

Just because he doesn't go down doesn't say **** about how good his chin is ... he's still hurt.

I'm not saying that his chin is made of egg shells ... but its not going to improrve over night.

Corrales had that label and he proved that **** throughout his career ... they said that the knock down PBF delivered was because of his weight trouble yet after that he was still getting knocked down.

I dont believe Cotto being rocked by Torres was b/c of his weight. He straight up got rocked by a hard hitter. But as another poster said, I'm sure most people would have not recovered or perhaps even been KO'd by those punches torres landed. So that shows Cotto's chin wasnt that bad. With Corley, he got caught with a great shot to the temple which completely through off his equilibrium.

Mosley never had Cotto hurt. Judah had Cotto stunned for a very brief moment but neither of them had him hurt the way Torres and Corley did.

His chin is fine though he can be hurt once a really solid shot connects but that doesn't mean it's the end. Cotto can fight when hurt and is smart enough to fake it at times as well, he doesn't just get hurt and totally in trouble without being able to do anything, he holds on, backs off and still manages to fight and trouble his opponent even when hurt.
