To gauge what might happen if Pavlik ever fights Kessler, being that it looks like a go for Kessler vs Miranda. If MK can dominate Edison the way Pavlik did, chances are KP & MK would be a good, close fight. If MK struggles with Miranda, that would be an indication that Kessler might have his hands full with Pavlik.

I hate all this speculation stuff.:bart

Miranda-Kessler Update!
Pantera vs Viking Warrior looms closer
Super middleweight contender Edison Miranda's highly publicized campaign calling out former WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler appears to have paid dividends. Word is Miranda (30-2, 26 KOs) and Kessler (39-1, 29 KOs) now have a tentative agreement to meet May 24th on SHOWTIME. Contract details, such as a neutral site, still have to be worked out. Stay tuned...

Good post! I agree but problem is that Pavlik says he's staying at 160 for awhile.

I don't see Kessler staying more than 1-2 years in the 168 division because he has to lose too much weight every time ! He's naturally a big guy ! On the other hand Pavlik will move up after 2008 for the same reasons !!

Probably for a full year, maybe a bit more, then he'll have to go to 168, because they'll be no one left to fight at 160.

KP wants out by the time he's 30. So it will prob go something like this, +/-.

2008, '09 = 160 = 26/27 yrs. old

2009, '10 = 168 = 27/28 yrs. old

2010, '11 = 175 = 28/29 yrs. old.

2012 = 30 yrs. old = :hi:

I just never buy into the reasoning that says if fighter 'A' dominates fighter 'B', a fighter who does not dominate fighter 'B' would not be able to compete with fighter 'A' (if that makes any sense). Boxing history is full of huge exceptions to this rule (Frazier/Foreman/Ali, for one example). So, even if Kessler doesn't ko Miranda it doesn't mean he wouldn't ko Pavlik.

Your absolutely right. But you hear it all the time in sports. Sometimes it turns out the way you forecast & sometimes it doesn't with the comparisons made.

Pavlik dominated Miranda and knocked him out. As I stated in the other thread about this very thing it would tell us nothing about how a fight with Kessler and Pavlik or Taylor would come out. Unless Kessler loses to Miranda then we could stop talking about it.

Pavlik has great stamina, a decent jab and a longer reach than Miranda. How Kessler performs against Miranda isn't an indication of how Pavlik will do against Kessler.

Tarver/Jones/Hopkins will agree with you.

Styles makes fights and i think what you said applies in a lot of circumstances.

I dont know, I think that Tarver would have always been a tough fight for Jones, but the Jones that beat Hopkins would have also beat Tarver 10 of 10 times.

But I agree with you in theory.

Thats true but i dont agree with your example. Jones in his prime beats Tarver every time
