I think it's over, because of DAZN / ESPN / Showtime / FOX These US networks have ruined the game this year. They are scrambling to sign every free agent to a network deal. Meaning very few fighters will be available to enter a tournament like WBSS. And even the free agents that do remain, how will WBSS compete with the ridiculous purses being thrown around.
Why? WBSS = A boxing tournament. DAZN = Broadcast. By the way, DAZN is showing WBSS 2nd Season last / this year. There is no reason why DAZN is ruining WBSS. If something is ruining WBSS then it's Sauerland and his **** management.
Because DAZN are rivals with ESPN and Showtime / FOX, so Arum and Haymon won't let their fighters join cause it basically means giving away their fighters to a rival network.
There are more than enough quality non-Arum/Haymon fighters to fill the roster in almost every weightclass. There are weightclasses that are almost completely without Arum/Haymon fighters at the top.
I hope it succeeds but I agree with you. They appear to have cash flow problems. From the outside it looks like it bleeds money. It's a difficult sell to non sports dedicated networks due to the infrequency of the fights and the relative obscurity of some of the contenders to a casual audience. Hence the failure to sell some of the international rights. They got lucky with DAZN launching and needing all the content they could get. That may change as they have more home produced content. Maybe Sauerland and co could sell it to DAZN but they could just put their own version out there.
