    Hey guys,

I am an American and although I feel that I built the Mayweather bandwagon 11 years ago when I began following Mayweather's career in the '96 Olylmpics and told everyone within earshot (and wrote articles to boot) that he was a future all time great, I also have been following Joe Calzaghe's career for a while. Calzaghe is also a truly great and special fighter. I rank him #2 P4P right now behind Mayweather (who I feel is not just the best fighter now, but the best ever P4P). Everyone loves Manny, but I can't rank him over Calzaghe P4P because they aren't even close in skill, and Calzaghe is undefeated, and we've seen Pacman get outboxed in his first fight with Moralles.

Calzaghe hasn't lost a fight in almost 18 years, has amazing stamina, is very quick for a 168 pounder, is extremely intelligent, has underrated power, great sense of distance, a great chin, and a big heart. His professional record of 44-0 speaks for itself. I'm amazed that he is not mentioned among the greats. He would have been a nightmare for any 160-175 pound fighter. I would be a grand that he beats Hopkins if they ever fight. Imagine having to face a left handed, very quick and slick fighter who throws 90 punches per round, can take your best punch, can match wits with the smartest fighters out there past and present, and has the confidence of being undefeated? What a nightmare!! I would not only make him a favorite over Hopkins, but I would make him a favorite over Dawson, Pavlik, and past fighters like Archie Moore, Conn, and Spinks. I would make Jones in his prime a favorite over Joe, but that's the only guy past or present that I would favor over him from 168-175. I don't even need to see hm at 175 before I do this. I think at 175 he will be even better because he walks around at around 185lbs and will be stronger at 175 and his speed will be even more of a factor. I wish he had moved up a lot sooner. This man is special. Agree or disagree?

Yes, better. But not as good as Henry Cooper. Henry Cooper is better then Muhammad Ali, but you won't believe it because you are a foolish American. Henry Cooper knocked down a prime Ali, and if foolish American Angelo "I am a stupid American" Dundee hadn't illegally tampered with the gloves then Cooper would have beat Ali.

Angelo Dundee is stupid. JUST LIKE THE WAR IN IRAQ!!!

Some of the old school posters in the classic section say he's like a south paw version of Harry Greb.

Don't hit all that hard, but a windmill of punches, amazing stamina/output, different angles, good jaw, intelligent, etc, etc.....

I think that assessment is correct in a lot of ways.

Calzaghe fought a prime Reid, Just look at what americans posted about Jeff Lacy before Calzaghe fihgt he was the great american hope many ranked as bes tprospect and he was given a lesson of all lessons, I should know i was within 10 metres of the ring, it was awesome!

Calzaghe backed out of fighting Glen Johnson twice, once he claimed his divorce was upsetting him, and the other time he said his back was hurting. It's well documented. He thought Johnson would be an easy touch, then Johnson beat old Jones and Calzaghe literally ran for the hills.

Robin Reid, great boxer? Decent, not great - and Calzaghe struggled like **** with him. Calzaghe has had maybe 2 decent wins his whole career and people are talking about him like he's Ray Robinson, it's ridiculous.

Calzaghe is good, but he can never be considered a great until he beats a great. I, like most posters think he has amazing talent, but lacks even a good resume for a champ.

Yes, beating a 43 year old will be the pinnacle of Joes career.

Think that's not true? It is you know.....just about sums up Joes career.

That's the problem I have with him....could have been something, but ducked so many big fights in his career it was ridiculous. The fights with Lacy and Kessler seem to have erased the bull**** of the previous 8 years to many, but not to me. The average British boxing fan is plain ignorant.

Yes he is great but its bitter sweet really cos hes so underated and the only way he is going to go down in history is to beat a fighter in his 40's whos over the hill. Iv said it before if kessler was american these conversations wouldnt have taken place people wouldnt doubt his greatness. I think people in general are coming around to it now though and itll be interesting in 5-10 years time how people rate his legacy. I can understand him being underated throughout the world but even people here in britain underate him which is a joke. And yet mention khan and the average sports fan will all of a sudden be a boxing expert.:yep

I mean what do you expect, the first time I seen him on prime television was when he fought Lacy in what march of 06. I seen short clips and read a couple things about him, but like most americans, I knew very little about him until that fight.

Calzaghe is a good fighter, but I see no one name his resume that is great. Where have learned now that Lacy was just a hype job, seeing his last 2 fights against C type opposition didnt go very well. Time will tell wether Calzaghe fights a great in the future, I just feel it might be too little, too late.

Lacy was considered very good fighter at the time and it wasnt so much he just beat him more the fact that he completely dominated and outclassed him. What about eubank and kessler. I do agree he could do with 2 more big names before he finishes up though just to cement his legacy. And the only reason hes had to fight pretenders like manfredo is too get recognition from the american public who would rather watch famous reality tv stars than genuine boxers. I think his carear could have maybe been managed better in places but theres no doubt hes a great fighter and very underated in my oppinion
