I whole-heartedly agree. And so does Floyd Mayweather.

Its back to old problem again, yet again European fightesr that are largely unknown are useless bums in American eyes and therefore discredited on a fighters record (namely Calazaghe) yet largely unknown U.S fighters are supposed to be repectable names on a good/great U.S fighters record. I have said it a thousand times, How do you know that an average European tomato can is worse than and average American tomato can? answer is you dont and cannot know, so stop saying that just because a European has fighters on his record that you dont know about they are useless. it is this attitude that stinks of plain ignorance. The bottom line is the Calzaghe is the Champion and it is up to everyone else to take the title from him, why he has to travel to prove anything is beyond me? People say Hopkins is a legend and a big name. Hmm well it seems to me that had he not been American he would have been another Sven Ottke if you look at his overal record.
P.S , I am American too so dont play the ignorant European card.

    This bollocks is so annoying....:patsch
Joe's problem is he came along about 5yrs to late. When he did start his rise the American names avoided him on the risk reward basis , I mean a nobody from the S.Wales valleys was **** all on RJJ's resume at the time but certain camps in america knew he had the potential to cause upsets & were'nt prepared to run that risk.Jesus it was Joe who had Hopkins running a few yrs back & now he's accused of ducking its ****ing laughable.
A prime RRJ aside Joe beats ANY SMW/MW in the last 15 yrs. Real boxing fans can see talent & his performances over Lacy & Kessler have showcased the mans skill & adaptability This will be proved when Kessler goes on to dominate SMW for the forseeable future.
I can see that Joe's resume is an easy target for the haters & some of it is probably justified but really , WHO has there been to fight in the last few yrs for him.........???
Im not saying Calzaghe is some ATG superhero but he certainly one of the very best SMW we have seen in a long time & anyone who cant appreciate the mans talent is either blinded by dislike or very , very limited in their boxing knowledge.

    You are a hater mate.

Jones is the only one who could maybe beat a prime Calzaghe at 168.

Hopkins ducked him 6 years ago I see you are neglecting to mention that fact and running from Glen Johnson? Going through a divorce and then getting injured isn't exactly his fault is it?

Not the most underrated fighter ever, but I do agree that Calzaghe is criminally underrated in the States. He's only just now getting his dues after destroying Lacy. He is a great fighter and I look forward to him facing his Future HoF contemporaries; Hopkins and Jones.

I believe...wait I know there is a very good chance Calzaghe is simply the best ever at any weight. You can make a case for several fighters and Calzaghe is one of those.

He is like a more skilled, good looking, more powerful, faster, more staminaful version of Harry perhaps.

if Joe had a good promoter and went to america 5 years ago n took hopkins , rjj n the others who want to fight him n beat them , then we would be looking at the number 1 P4P champ , and probs even taking Calzaghe as the best ever , but didnt happen!

Here you go again with your nationalistic crap from the dark ages. Give it a rest mate. Act your age, not your shoe size.

Yep, far too many people on here with ridiculous biased agendas....

I'll admit I can't stand Calzaghe, but I try to back up my points with facts, instead of just claiming some bull**** like "Robin Reid was a great fighter" :rofl :rofl :rofl

I disagree. Calzaghe was calling out Jones from around 2000 onwards as I remember it, Jones was still in his prime then and he had no problems giving good fighters shots at his title - take a look at the careers of some of his victims since then for examples of this. Two that spring to mind off the top of my head are Julio Gonzales and Clinton Woods. If Calzaghe really was concerned about being the best he could have easily stepped up 7lbs back then and challenged Jones, but as I recall he seemed to think that Jones should move back to 168, drop all his 175 belts and fight for the WBO 168 belt, which is oh so prestigious :nut

Not to mention the fact that Joe has a problem fighting anywhere other than Wales....maybe Hopkins did duck Joe back then, maybe not - but Jones certainly didn't.

Joe is one of the very best 168 fighters we've ever seen yes, I'll never dispute that - what I do dispute is when people try to say that his career is this magnificent work of genius because he's undefeated. Give me 50 ******s to fight and I'll string together a brilliant undefeated run...it'll look impressive on paper and all that but under close scrutiny it'd stink. Having said that I'd still probably get a top 10 ranking from the WBO :yep

You also think Jones is the only man that could have beaten Joe in the last 15 years? I think Toney and Hopkins would disagree with that - the fact that he's still chasing Hopkins and it's a 'big' fight suggests that it's not a foregone conclusion, even at the age Hopkins is now. I wouldn't rule out a 1992 Nigel Benn or Chris Eubank beating Joe either, along with a couple of others.

Yes I am, born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Don't believe me, look me up on the internet. My name is Darrell La Montre. I've written articles on boxing. I used the word "yank" because I am well aware that that term is used to characterize Americans and I was speaking to people who live outside of the U.S. and namely Europeans since that is where Calzaghe is from. Do you not think we know what you guys call us? What about all the non American posters on here? You don't think we see the lingo that is used? I also know that "blue eyed devils" is what some black people call whites :) Do you think Michael Jackson would be shocked to know that people think he's weird?
