He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament a year ago. He seems better to me than the likes of Dave Allen and Fraser Clarke.
He has looked pretty good in spells but then looked average in other fights, then had that upset loss to the heaviest looking heavyweight I've ever seen.
His knee popped out in his only loss. Looked decent against McFarlane. The main issue is his lack of conditioning. Needs to do some resistance training and lift some weights. Its really difficult to make noise in the HW division when you do not even do the basics right. It is not that complex.
Strange advice, given that he is extremely strong and has plenty of muscle (this is not necessary, even). Although he is not sub ten per cent body fat he is also not remotely fat for a modern heavyweight. He has more muscle and is more lean than Agit Kabayel, who everyone is blowing some up his ass. what basics do you suggest he work on?
He's not in good shape in my opinion. He won't ever really be either as I don't think he has the mentality. A southpaw is always a challenge, especially at heavyweight but landing a straight left hand on a Jay MacFarlane doesn't really prove much. I was never really impressed with Carty although I think he could improve but he lacks speed and general coordination. I don't like his defence, I don't like his reflexes. He lost every fight of significance os an amateur. The heavyweight division is pretty weak though. Fabio Wardley who is a poor fighter is a heavyweight champion, probably up there in the top 5 worst champs ever.
His balance when he throws, his leg strength and explosiveness. That looks a particular weakness. In general he needs to work on overall speed, punching speed, and reflexes. A lot to work on to be honest, he needs athletic improvements. As a boxer he has most of the basics there. A combination of the right "programme" in terms of performance enhancers, and specific training regimes will help him.
Don't rate him, if he is planning on fighting on the UK domestic scene the division is stacked with far more talented fighters both prospects and established. The UK scene is stacked and we still have 1 or 2 decent amateurs yet to turn over to add to it. He can probably build a little momentum being Irish and them not having much of a heavyweight scene and with Adam Olaniyan turning over that could be built up in to a decent fight in 18 months time.
