Amazingly, he was up and and walking around after about five minutes (if I recall correctly from a news story I tracked down when I first saw this video abot six months ago.)

Still, there are many recorded videos of people dying from lesser blows than this. I think I may have seen the aftermath of such an incident from my window in June. I heard a shouting match for over a minute but didn't bother to look out my window till the punch was already thrown. The guy was entirely unresponsive when paramedics arrived but I never found out if he was (relatively) okay because I couldn't find any mention of the incident in emergency response reports online, even though both paramedics and police certainly came to the scene.

Yeah, what really boils off that last drop of any possible sympathy I might have for the bouncer is that it's his ****ing job to prevent violence to the best of his ability, and he ****ing signed up to deal with annoying drunks. It's his ****ing job! It's not as if he was some fellow bar patron who momentarily lost his temper with a guy who's too **** drunk to recognize personal boundaries, and the little guy probably had no idea he was even making the big guy mad. (All he was doing was jokingly asking the bartender if he could take a punch in lieu of paying a cover charge.)

I must say it seems incongruous to think of a criminal underworld in Melbourne, which probably seems hilarious to an Australian. To an American, Australia and organized crime just don't seem to go together somehow.

    Precisely.

You're paid to prevent violence amongst patrons not to perpetrate it on them, you idiot.

I know what you're saying but the Australian (and in particular Melbourne) underworld is alive and well these days. Probably not to the extent that the US's was in its heyday but the drug syndicates, Australian mafia, middle eastern gangs and bikie gangs (one and the same usually) are very active and dangerous. We had an underworld war in Melbourne in the early 2000's that saw plenty of murders which you can wiki to read up on. The bouncer that I was referring to isn't counted as part of that though his shooting happened in that time frame. Here is a piece that details some of the circumstances behind this halfwits demise

Just got out of jail for an alleged assault that was pure fiction, and thought of this thread. Right now I'm really thankful there are cameras nearly everywhere.

Those guys, Scott Smith and Pete Sell were really close friends and former training partners IIrc. They actually hugged before the final round.

The fighter instinct in a fighter never goes away it just remains dormant . Gerry Cooney at
60 showed that while not preparing for a comeback the fighter in him is still alive. He
recalls the day four muscle brothers entered the gym looking to go a few rds with the
man who fought Larry Holmes for HW Title in 82. Cooney '' They were young they were
American Football Players '' and i said '' Listen , to warn you , don't back me in a corner.
because if you do , instinct takes over and , i have to fight out " . So of course they ignored
Cooney's warning and it did not end kindly for them !!!
