If you're referring to the Lockridge video and not the one where one Russian fat guy sucker punches the fatter Russian guy looking down at his phone, that was not a cheap shot. Anyone aggressively invading your space has forfeit his right not to be punched and you are under zero moral obligation to wait for him to attack. I don't know how it is in the UK but most U.S states have laws that recognize this. (Though some have utterly mindless "duty to retreat" laws.)
