Thomas Hearns won the world middleweight title at his second attempt. His first challenger was a fairly decent fringe contender who had already won two fights that year after losing his first go at becoming world champion. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, and then it was all over and we had a new champion. For those who want to watch the fight online, here's a link to my Daily Motion channel: This content is protected
Way back then, I said that Barkley would win, and called the round and the punch, and pretty much exactly how the fight went. My best friend at the time was a huge Hearns fan so, originally, it was just talking trash at work and me trying to get under his skin. But I talked myself into believing it and we argued enough about it that I had to make a case for it.
How Barkley survived those shots to the body in the 3rd round is beyond me. Hell of an effort by Barkley.
I remember this fight, I think it was a year or two before Operation Desert Storm...brutal fight. Barkley gave him that run back and bested him again too
I think about this fight and the (face rearranging) rematch a lot............I don't get it. This is just the definition of someone being someone else's poison (like Rahman/Maskaev or Winky/Shane for instance).
