Can't believe this fight was 22 years ago  A fantastic boxing display by a non prime Hearns at an un-natural weight :good

The 80s light heavies were a pretty unspectacular group, looking back at the decade as a whole.

Qawi moved up in weight\burned out so quickly and it was basically just Spinks and a lot of mediocre to solid fighters right up until the end of the decade.Nobody who really stood out as a very good talent.A lot of the 2nd tier\lower half of the top ten sort of contenders and title challengers from previous decades that didn't get much time inthe spotlight would have been top fighters and champions in this era.

It is a great win on paper, coming up from WW beating a LHW champ in the middle of his 10 years as champ. Hearns carried 175 pretty well though and a not so aggressive technician who he has height/reach was always his ideal stylistic match up. Still a great win really though.

1 of his top 3 wins? Maybe, I'd have the Leonard draw as 1, then probably Benitez, then it's between Hill, Cuevas and Duran I think.

Hearns showed a great aptitude to move between the weights during his career. He seemed easily able to fight between 154 and 170'ish and did so in back to back fights against Medel, Dewitt, Andries then back to 160 again.

Even immediately after the leonard bout, before he established himself at 154 he had been looking filled out in tuneups weighting around 157 against Singletary, Sutherland etc.
