The Hitman vs Hagler Lite. What happens?

Keep in mind that the only punch that ever stopped Bennie was a massive right hand from Valdez. Could Hearn's duplicate that?

If they fought three times could Bennie beat him once?

If they fought 3x then...yes. Briscoe is bound to take one depending on how Hearns approaches the fight. Generally my pick would be Hearns by decision.

The "Bad" one takes him all 3 X's although my avatar might mean I am a little biased!!!

Seriously at MW I think Bennie had to much fire power. I believe he would take him out ala Barkley I..I guess Hearns could improve upon that ala Barkley II, but I don't see any way he beats Bennie!!!

Briscoe would have been waaay too tough for Hearns to ko..and BB may have been outboxed some, but he had the capacity to hurt Hearns...Tommy wasn't the most rugged guy above welterweight.

Realistically speaking..Briscoe was like a tank..and he could punch..oh, I know that Bennie's tainted by having fought that BUM Carlos Monzon and may not be what you consider to be a rugged, dangerous competitor..and after all, he was only decked one time and that was by Rodrigo Valdez..oops..another bum, beated by that lowly Monzon guy again...well, I guess you're right..Hearns would take that china-chinned cream puff Briscoe out in one or two rounds....bull**** on this Hearns kos Briscoe stuff..I'm not saying that Bennie would have won, but he would have been more likely to hurt Hearns than vice versa..and a narrow decision would have been most likely regarding a Hearns victory.

Somebody said on here a while back that with Hearns it doesn't matter how good your chin is unless you're Marvin Hagler. If you get hit with that right hand, you're going to bed, full stop. Hearns smashed guys with rocks for jaws into the middle of next week (Duran, Roldan etc.). Briscoe has a good chin, but not unassailable; he was stopped by Valdez, who a hard hitter but no Thomas Hearns.

And yes, Briscoe is over-rated. In a nearly 20-year career at the top level he beat a grand total of THREE rated opponents, and basically lost every time he remotely stepped up in class. He blocks punches with his chin and would run straight into Hearns' power and it would be curtains.

Calm down, I asked a question and you go on a rant about me being biased. This is a forum you know?

Well, a good chin made the difference to Minchillo, DeWitt, Barkley, Kinchen..all guys who weren't Hagler, by the way. And Valdez WAS a better middleweight hitter than Hearns, IMO..and you may accuse me of overrating the 70's middleweights, but I say you UNDERRATE them..and unrealistically so..Briscoe had a more rugged, durable guy than Hearns, that bum Monzon..in serious trouble in their '72 fight, and the same punch, landed on Hearns would have put his lights out as in when the GREAT Iran Barrkley did the same to Tommy..and like when that lethal ko hitter James Hinchen decked Hearns..you have a blind spot concerning the middleweight division in the 70's...oh you're stop on about so many others, like Napoles , for one, but it';s like you started following boxing just last week on a You Tube crash course to assert that Briscoe would have been blown out like Duran, Roldan and Cuevas..none of these, including the great Thomas Hearns conquerer Iran Barkley were as good as Briscoe..and remember, Briscoe was given great respect and leeway by Hagler in their fight..don't lowrate a guy like Briscoe because he never won a title..there were many lesser "champions" before and since his time that he would have been too much for.

We'll just agree to disagree on this...I think you're as profoundly wrong as I'm sure you think I am...and incidently, I agree with you on many other things boxingwise, but not this.

Yes I think Briscoe could beat Hearns.I believe Hearns would capture more wins if they fought in a series of bouts, but Briscoe has the goods to beat him no doubt.

It's never easy picking Hearns fights. Tommy has the right hand to put out anyone at any given time, but also has fragilities that are made to exploit, esp. by bruising type fighters like Hagler and yes, Bennie Briscoe.

I had the pleasure of writing and discussing boxing to a guy who regularly sparred with Briscoe. He said Briscoe wasn't the strongest middle, but he was almost impossible to hurt. Also anyone who has the utmost respect of Hagler and Hopkins is a very formidible man.
To me watching Briscoe reminds me of death and taxes...You know someday that either one or the other is gonna get ya...For the record, I'll say Briscoe would give a guy like ATG Tony Zale a very hard fight. Reason being is the hunched over stance, elbows in tight, and hard left jab.
