Eubank, he was an elite Middleweight and Hearns wasn’t, he’d unnecessarily engage with Eubank and would come unstuck.
This is a tricky one. Hearns was the greater fighter but Eubank was strong at the weight and a solid Chin. Can't see Eubank getting stopped by Hearns but possibly out point him.
If Hearn's zeros in with that right hand and gets into a flow like he did against Cuevas he's going to lump almost anyone around the weight up. Old shot Hearn's was up at cruiser hurting and stopping people. His power was legit.
Hearns by UD Eubank isn't going to pressure Hearns like Barkley taking 2 to land 1 Eubank would be cautious looking to land a counter shot whilst Hearns would be jabbing his head off with his superior skills.
If there's one middleweight in history that could stop Eubank early it's Thomas Hearns. His combination of height, reach, speed, power and skills would keep all but the very best middleweights in history at bay. Eubank was a very skilled boxer-puncher. His boxing approach was much more traditional , he fought behind his jab was a very good combination and counter puncher. But That's where he'd lose to Hearns. The proven way of beating Hearns was forcing him off his spot, make him use his legs, control the center of the boxing ring. I don't believe Eubank could do that. Hearn's would come out aggressively behind his jab, and test Eubank early with the right hand. If Hearns don't stop early Eubank early, he'd make him reluctant to engage, cruise on to a UD.
Also Eubank hated body shots. Tommy's left hook to the body was one of the best. As long as he doesn't stand there and admire it for too long.
Hagler said Philly banger Eugene Hart hit him even harder then Hearns... And Hart wasn't a big middle. Weighed as little as 150 pounds during his career.
Hagler also said Mugabi and Hearns were the hardest punchers he faced. How does that pertain to the subject of this post?
